Automation Controls Apprentice
Role
The job role will include:
- Learning design principles
- Producing drawings for manufacture
- Producing flow charts for machine operation
- Produce your controls designs into reality
- Having a hands-on role in the company's day-to-day workings
- Gaining practical knowledge working with robots
- Working with suppliers to get production specifications
- Help compile technical files for customer handover
The role is to fully support the Automation Controls Engineer, gaining design experience as well as hands-on engineering experience. Theoretical and practical experience will include drawing electrical schematics, wiring up the control panel to the machine, writing PLC and HMI software and testing the machines.
We design and manufacture a wide array of machines in many different industries, from simple robot welding cells for general automation systems through to very specific robot integrated robot cells for large blue chip customers.
No two machines that we make are the same, and therein lies the challenge.
Training
This is a Level 3 Engineering Technician apprenticeship, Mechatronics pathway, delivered over a period of 4 years. The apprentice will attend the training centre, In-Comm Training Services in Telford TF3 3AJ, 2.5 days per week for the first two years, and the company for the rest of the time.

The successful candidate will transition into a junior automation controls engineer.
