Specialist Speech & Language Therapist

Part time 16 hours per week

Salary: £14,723 - 17,729 (£36,807 44,322 WTE) + £1000 welcome bonus!

Location: Cygnet Hospital Colchester, Boxted Road, Mile End, Colchester, Essex, CO45HF

We have a new and exciting opportunity for an emerging Specialist or established Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our dedicated and passionate team at Cygnet Hospital Colchester. You will work on one of our three wards for people with a learning disability and / or autistic people as the named SLT and under the supervision of an on-site highly specialist SLT. You will also have an SLT assistant to support you in your role.

Please note this post is also advertised as a full-time post in combination with a 3-day role in our East of England Social Care locations (CYG35871) and only 1 post is available.

Job Role As a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, you will have a unique opportunity to support the development and delivery of an evidence-based SLT service to meet the needs of the complex client group. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will use expert skills to assess, advise and intervene with the aim of promoting, implementing and embedding functional communication systems; this is a hands-on role with high levels of contact with individuals in the care of the service. You will be able to train others, promote good practice and maintain a successful inclusive communication environment.

Postgraduate qualification in the management of dysphagia is desirable but we are able to provide you with accredited training if this is an area for your personal development if required.

We are looking for some with:

  • HCPC registration as a Speech and Language Therapist
  • Experience in the field of Learning Disabilities including Autism Spectrum Disorders and Mental Health Conditions
  • Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support with an emphasis on person-centred planning
  • Knowledge of sensory needs and how these may impact on functioning and regulation
  • Dysphagia training (desirable training available)
  • Excellent communication & time management skills
  • Enthusiasm, motivation and passion
