RCSEng Robotic Fellow- Starting March 2025

Applications are invited for a Robotic RCSEng in Urology our unit . The post is accredited RCSEng and is full time fixed term appointment. The post will commence in March 2025 for a period of mandatory 12 months and are based at Lister Hospital in Stevenage.The RCSEng Robotic fellow allows a fantastic opportunity for a senior registrar who wishes to develop a career in Robotic Urology. http://www.rcseng.ac.uk/surgeons/training/fellowships/nationalfellowship-register/urology. The department includes five robotically trained Consultants (three of whom are national and international proctors in Robotic Urology). The Trust has 2X da Vinci Xi Dual Console robot and a CMR robot, which has further enhanced training opportunities within the department. The department is recognized as a centre of excellence by The Vattikuti Foundation, one of only three centers in Europe.

During the post it is envisaged that the successful candidate will gain skills in a whole breadth of robotic procedures to including RALP, RALC, intracorporeal reconstruction, RAPN and Robotic Pyeloplasty. The posts are ideally suited to a post-CCT (or equivalent) candidate who can focus on sub-specialty training in Robotics. Our previous Fellows have published and presented at national and international meetings.

Main duties of the job

  • The Robotic Fellow maintains the department's robotic database and contributes to national audits.
  • The post will be a balance of outpatient, day case and inpatient operating duties.
  • To participate in the department's teaching, audit, and educational activities
  • Daily ward rounds, inpatient and outpatient management of patients, operating lists and on call

Person Specification

Qualifications/Training

Essential
  • Hold a current licence to practice from the General Medical Council
  • FRCS (Urol) or equivalent higher degree in Urology
  • Advanced Life Support Certificate or equivalent

Previous Experience

Essential
  • Experience of working in Urology
Desirable
  • NHS experience

Skills

Essential
  • Able to evidence engagement with clinical governance and the identification of errors and the learning from errors
  • Able to show situational awareness and application of good decision making
  • Can evidence leading on patient safety issues and achieving a change in practice
  • Experience of supervising undergraduates, doctors in training and other colleagues
Desirable
  • Ability to teach clinical skills
  • Experience in organising educational activities

Knowledge

Essential
  • Demonstrate understanding of basic principles and experience of audit.
