Apprentice CAD Technician
Role
The role requires you to learn and support in the delivery of overhead transmission line (OHL) CAD outputs, including the production of 2D & 3D CAD models & drawings, schedules and lists for the purposes of providing safe, clear and technically compliant visual instructions to site operatives and procurement for purchasing and installation of equipment and materials.
As part of this role you will undertake the following activities:
· To support in the production of CAD outputs in line with statutory and industry specific standards and best practice guidance documentation.
· Support the development of overhead line CAD drawings and construction solutions in line with CDM regulations.
· Deliver detailed and accurate technical drawings to industry standards for the benefit of the customer
· Use industry standard software, including 2D and 3D techniques based upon the output required.
· Utilise technical notes, considering CDM and a customer’s technical knowledge and understanding.
· Promote the sharing and development of knowledge for all team members
Some key responsibilities to deliver the above activities will be:
· Produce 3D CAD models and associated 2D drawing outputs for (but not limited to):
o Wire Clearance Diagrams
o Set Drawings
o OPGW fibre path arrangements
o Reinforced Concrete Foundation General Arrangements
o Bar Bending Schedules
o Route/Access Maps & Layout Plans
o Stage-by-Stage Diagrams & Route Schematics
o Material Ordering Schedules and Material & Bolt lists
· Populate & maintain CAD team document libraries.
· Demonstrate excellent ‘attention to detail’ in all drawing outputs produced.
· Follow CAD team document production workflow, ensuring agreed best practice and document revision control is followed.
o Attend, engage and contribute to CAD team discussions and workshops to ensure continuous improvement of self and team processesTower Line Diagrams for Condition Assessments

Training will be delivered one day per week, term time, and is based at The Highfield site and facilities are in creation to enrich the student experience, developing them with the necessary skills using industry recognised equipment to ensure the apprentice receives training closely matched to the employer’s and industry.

What you’ll have achieved on successful completion of apprenticeship:
Top of Form
· Formal Engineering Qualification (HNC/HND).
· Competent 2D & 3D AutoCAD user.
· Working knowledge and understanding of general technical drawing best practice - Drawing layout, dimensioning, linestyle conventions, views & projections, etc.
· Good appreciation of all OHL drawing types (As listed above).
· Good understanding of OHL steel lattice tower types and their make-up.
· Basic understanding of design outputs necessary for the production of associated drawings & schedules.
· Appreciation of site activities related to drawing outputs produced – To be achieved via on-the-job learning and site visits.
· Good appreciation of Microsoft office applications – Word, Excel, Outlook.
· Ability to self-appraise own drawing work and offer suggestions for improvements.
· Ability to liaise effectively with own team members and wider business to achieve required drawing outputs to a high standard.
· Ability to work on own (following instruction) and as part of a team.
Starting salary –
Year 1 - £13,500pa
Year 2 - £15,500pa
Year 3 - £17,500pa
Year 4 - £20,500pa
On successful completion of apprenticeship - £25,000p
Potential opportunity for a permanent role within the company following successful completion of the apprenticeship.
