Transformation Business Analyst

Job summary

Transformation Business Analyst provides business analysis services to projects and teams within the HEIW. A Business Analyst will typically work on many assignments simultaneously; assignments will vary in scale and complexity resulting in work packages that vary from a small number of weeks to several months in duration.

Main duties of the job

  • This role provides business analysis services to projects and teams within the HEIW. A Business Analyst will typically work on many assignments simultaneously; assignments will vary in scale and complexity resulting in work packages that vary from a small number of weeks to several months in duration.
  • The focus of the Business Analysis function is to clearly elicit, define and document stakeholder requirements which may be technical in nature. However, this is a 'full lifecycle' role with possible involvement from business case development to operational review, via requirements, design, development, test, and implementation.
  • The Business Analyst will also support end users both during the programme delivery and business as usual phases given that transition to business operations will be iterative throughout the life of the programme and beyond

Qualifications and Knowledge

Essential
  • Educated to Masters level (or equivalent qualification / experience).
  • Awareness of the unique value proposition of HEIW and how it supports the NHS.
  • Familiar with modelling, process mapping and analysis tools (e.g. Enterprise Architect), methods and standards (e.g. UML, BPMN).
  • In-depth knowledge of business modelling techniques and experience in obtaining input from and communicating modelling results to senior managers for agreement.
  • Knowledge of business processes and facilitation to understand the effect of potential changes and how business processes, systems, structures, data and roles and responsibilities interact with one another.
  • IT literacy to an expert level (Microsoft).
Desirable
  • Possess (or working towards) a recognised Business Analysis professional qualification (such as BCS International Diploma in Business Analysis).
  • Working knowledge of the NHS and national developments and policy initiatives.
  • Understanding and knowledge of health service terminology and information requirements 6.
  • Understanding of the NHS Wales IM&T development and assurance processes, including the NHS Wales Information Standards Assurance Process.

Experience

Essential
  • Significant experience of an information/analyst role.
  • Experience of applying a variety of analytical techniques to information and quantifying result integrity based upon assessment of sources and techniques applied.
  • Experience of consulting activities and techniques including facilitating stakeholder groups.
  • Experience of process analysis, assessment and change including financial, cultural, technological, organisational, and environmental factors.
  • Further experience of establishing customer requirements and identifying how these maps to process requirements.
  • Expertise with the application of Business Analysis techniques, methods, and tools; experience of the implementation of Business Analysis techniques, methods, and tools as well as the enhancement of their application.
Desirable
  • Previous public sector experience.
  • Understanding of NHS Clinical/administrative Information and IT requirements

Skills and Attributes

Essential
  • Ability to communicate with staff up to a senior level on complex business or clinical processes.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and IT systems quickly through specialist training courses and self-study.
  • Ability to organise own work effectively and work on own initiative.
  • Ability to coach and mentor others. Manage the professional development of staff.
  • Ability to be an active listener and to tailor communication to the audience.
  • Ability to plan, document and prioritise own and staff members' workload in a proactive manner.
Desirable
  • Awareness of relational database design skill and SQL.
  • Awareness of Database reporting software
  • Experience or qualifications in Project management skills (PRINCE 2/Agile) Welsh Language Skills are desirable levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading, and writing in Welsh.
