Design/AutoCAD Apprentice

You will learn to produce plans, elevations and sections using AutoCAD software in line with Architects and Engineers designs and specifications and will gain an understanding of the entire construction process following completion of design.

Role

Design/Draughtsperson Role:

 

·         Learn how to design JPJ products to comply with Architects and Engineers designs and specifications using AutoCAD software.

 

·         Updating drawings to As Built Status.

 

·         Producing part fabrication drawings and compiling hardware quantity lists.

 

·         Participate in handover meetings with the estimator, project manager and fabrication teams.

 

·         Attend any external client/architect meetings as required (with mentor/another senior member of staff).

 

·         Assist the design department with workshop scheduling when required.

 

·         Gain an understanding of design adherence to health and safety legislation, sustainable building standards, and industry codes of practice and regulations.

 

·         Learn to respond to technical queries and make recommendations to overcome any issues.

 

·         An opportunity to learn to use other 2D and 3D software (for example Revit and solidworks). 

 

Design Document Control and Administrative Duties:

·         Downloading, uploading and maintaining drawings on Principle Contractor document and control websites.

·         Ensure that documents are accurately labelled, indexed and stored in a manner that allows for easy retrieval.

·         Update design status on the JPJ in-house ERP/IT system.

·         Undertake general office duties, including the drafting of emails, photocopying, printing documents, answering the phone etc.

Training

You will work towards the Engineering Design and Draughting Level 3 apprenticeship. After successful completion you will gain a Level 3 BTEC in Construction and the Built Environment. 

This will be undertaken with the training T3 Training and Development. The majority of the learning will take place via remote delivery from your workplace. There will be occassional face to face training that will take place in Barsnely or Nuneaton. 20% of your working week will be spent on off-the-job learning/training. 

Functional skills in maths and English, if required.

This apprenitcehip opportunity allows you to work within a busy SME in the construciton industry. We have a purpose built factory as well as our own installation teams and therefore there is scope to learn the entire construction process from estimating to final account. Upon completion of the Level 3 apprenticeship, there is opportunity to progress and undertake further learning, whether this is related to design or another area within the business.
