Electro-Mechanical Engineering Degree Level Apprenticeship

Can you imagine contributing to the design, construction and maintenance of everything around us, and on some of the world's most high-profile projects? Using programmes such as computer aided design and building information management, you’ll learn engineering principles and technics to help design and deliver infrastructure and buildings.

Role

  • Working on a diverse range of projects, including a medium-to-large scale flood alleviation, pumping stations, and clean water and wastewater treatment plants  
  • Supporting with all phases of a project lifecycle, including but not limited to feasibility studies, detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and handover  
  • Working with UK water and sewerage companies (WASCs) and environmental agencies, plus select international projects  
  • Liaising directly with our clients and stakeholders 
  • Technical drawings, including: 
    • Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation
    • General Arrangement Drawings 
    • Cable Route Drawings and Block Cable Diagrams 
    • System Architectures 
    • Single Line Diagrams 
    • Lighting Layout Drawings 
    • Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID) 
    • Pipework Drawings - Rising Mains & Discharge
    • Arrangements 
    • Earthing Diagrams
  • Technical calculations and schedules, including: 
    • Lightning Protection Risk Assessments 
    • Load Schedules 
    • Instrument Schedule 
    • I/O and Telemetry Schedules 
    • Pump Calculations 
    • Valve Schedules 
    • Designers' Hazard Elimination and Management Record (DHEMR) 
    • Emergency Stop Risk Assessment Schedules 
  • Investigation, research, specifications, and report writing, including: 
    • User Requirement Specifications (URS), Control Philosophies, and Functional Design Specifications 
    • SCADA, Generator, Low Voltage Assembly, Pump, Metalwork (Access Platforms and Screens), Penstock, and Valve Specifications 
    • Operation and Maintenance (O&M) Manual 
  • Participation in and documentation of workshops and testing procedures, including: 
    • Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) Study  
    • Access Lifting Maintenance Workshop 
    • Hazard Identification (HAZID) Workshops 
    • Factory Acceptance Testing (witnessing) 
    • Commissioning 

Training

  • Electro-Mechanical Engineer Level 6 Apprenticeship Standard
  • BEng (Hons) Electro-mechanical Engineering and Electro-mechanical Engineer Degree Apprenticeship Certificate
  • Functional Skills in maths and English, if required.
  • You will attend university one day a week
  • You will have the full support of your wider team, as well as a line manager, mentor and buddy, and a dedicated learning & development team.
  • This apprenticeship will include the knowledge, skills and behaviours required to achieve Incorporated Engineer status with the Institution of Civil Engineers and lead to the designatory letters IEng MICE. The professional review process for IEng MICE is included in the final assessment process.
  • Further progression may well be available in other areas within our sector, upon successful completion of the apprenticeship.
