Project Manager - Benchmarking & data analysis projects

Job summary

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Project Manager to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and leading data collections and benchmarking projects within the NHS Benchmarking Network, working closely with health and care organisations across the UK to gather, analyse, and interpret data to drive performance, quality and service improvements.

Main duties of the job

Manage end-to-end benchmarking projects, including scoping, planning, execution, and reporting. Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to identify key performance metrics and areas for improvement. Develop project timelines, deliverables, and milestones, ensuring projects are completed to the required time, cost and quality. Lead data collection efforts, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and compliance with data protection regulations. Analyse benchmarking data to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for improvement. Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations summarising findings, insights, and recommendations relevant for the audience. Provide guidance and support to member organisations on interpreting benchmarking data and implementing best practices. Act as a liaison between NHS Benchmarking Network and member organisations, fostering strong relationships and ensuring high levels of satisfaction and engagement. Roles at this level may be required to manage a range of assigned resources. Staff management duties may be either through direct line management (including appraisals, performance management and other duties) or through matrix management of a virtual team.

We deliver national benchmarking projects to support planning and service improvement across the acute, community, and mental health, learning disabilities and autism sectors. Our vision is to enable members to improve patient outcomes, raise health standards and deliver quality health and care services through data excellence, benchmarking and the sharing of innovation. We are also commissioned to undertake bespoke work for member organisations. These bespoke projects cover a range of topics such as a deep dive on a particular patient cohort or service pathway; understanding areas of improvement such as reducing inequalities, additional targeted data collection to enhance insight on specific areas of interest, and system overviews of service delivery to supported integrated working.

Job responsibilities

The postholder will work in partnership with internal stakeholders and members of the NHS Benchmarking Network, to support decision making and operational delivery of benchmarking projects. The postholder will research specialist subjects to identify key metrics and design data specifications, to support member benchmarking and service improvement. The post-holder is required to work 37.5 hours per week Monday - Friday with core hours of 10am - 4pm. We operate a hybrid working environment, however you will be required to work from our Manchester office at least 1 - 2 days per week. Benefits

    Qualifications

    Essential
    • Educated to degree level (minimum BA/BSc 2:2) or relevant experience
    • Project management qualification - we are moving to an agile project management approach

    Experience

    Essential
    • At least three years experience in a project role
    • Knowledge of the end-to-end project lifecycle.
    • Knowledge of current health and social care landscape.
    • Demonstrable experience in project planning, delivery, project closure and review.
    • Detailed knowledge of project management methodologies.
    • Detailed knowledge of how corporate systems and departmental systems interrelate.
    • Technical experience in data analysis and interpretation.
    • Experienced people manager with the ability to influence, consult, negotiate and problem solve.
    • Numerate with good analytical skills and experience of working with data to inform improvement initiatives, e.g. data validation, data analysis, data visualisation.
    • Good Excel and PowerPoint skills.
    • Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.
    • Ability to effectively negotiate/consult to ensure problems and barriers to success can be overcome/resolved.
    • Ability to work on a number of projects simultaneously and deliver to agreed time, cost and quality.
    • Effective decision-making ability when prioritising and organising own and team workloads to ensure strict project deadlines are met.
    • Self-motivated and able to enthuse project teams to ensure projects are delivered on time.
    • Demonstrable evidence of good analytical and numerical skills with the ability to interpret complex statistical data.

    • Evidence of continued professional development
    • Experience of preparing and presenting major project documentation such as PIDS, business cases and end stage reports.
    • Experience of building successful multi disciplinary project teams
    • Demonstrable change management experience
    • Proven skills in searching for, summarising and presenting evidence, e.g. policy, guidance, key literature
    • Good networking skills both within the business/members and across wider stakeholders.
    • Excellent communication, motivating and influencing skills and an ability to work with a variety of stakeholders from different professional backgrounds.

    • Continuous development of own skill set, knowledge and experience in order to improve personal performance.
