Senior Data Analyst

Job summary

Working in a dynamic team you will use your data analysis skills and subject matter expertise to provide analytics, business intelligence and insights to help drive understanding and improvement across the organisation. You will help us to deliver a robust and integrated approach to turn data into action. Your work will ensure that a critical part of the national health infrastructure continues to deliver its vital services for patients. As a Data Analysis expert, you will excel at problem solving, have a passionate interest in delivering thought provoking, clear and innovative analysis and analytics. With an inquisitive mindset, data storytelling must be at the heart of everything you do. As a manager you will manage a team of analysts, helping them deliver, develop, and achieve. You will undertake an extensive induction and training programme and receive ongoing development to support you in your role and in achieving your future career ambitions.

Main duties of the job

Supporting the Head of the Analytics team in the relevant area in providing highly complex data analysis and analytics to support a specific part of the organisation and NHSBT more widely. Developing, enhancing, maintaining, and publishing a range of analysis, and analytics. Ensuring compliance with data protection and information governance legislation and organisational policies. Managing the workload and delivery of other analysts, monitoring performance in line with NHSBT and departmental policies and processes. Producing detailed analysis, data and reports as part of scheduled work and in response to ad hoc requests, including under the Freedom of Information Act. Extracting, integrating, and interrogating data from a variety of source systems using industry standard tools, such as MS-SQL, PowerBI and MS Excel. Supporting organisation change projects, operations, and programmes by designing, building and publishing specific data sets, dashboards and visualisations. Acting as a subject matter expert for NHSBT data analysis and interpretation of the data, providing professional support, advice, recommendations, and solutions to complex problems. You will be required to travel and spend time away from base, which will involve working irregular hours and overnight stays when required, with prior notice.

Qualifications

Essential
  • Educated to masters level in relevant subject or equivalent level qualification or significant experience of working at a similar level in specialist area.
  • Advanced computer and analytical skills and/or experience, including advanced MS Excel and industry standard analysis/analytics software packages.
  • Demonstrate commitment to own Continued Professional Development (CPD).

Experience

Essential
  • Substantial experience of extracting, manipulating, and integrating large data sets using industry standard tools (such as SQL).
  • Knowledge and demonstrable experience in applying analytical and statistical techniques to deliver insightful and actionable analysis.
  • Ability to prepare and produce concise, insightful, and actionable communications for dissemination to senior leaders and a broad range of stakeholders as required.
  • Experience of business intelligence solutions to create data visualisations/dashboards to inform decision making (e.g., Power BI).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proven first line staff management experience.
  • Good knowledge of relevant statutory directives, i.e., Data Protection Act, Freedom of Information Act, and public sector Information Governance principles.
  • Experience of analysing complex data and presenting reports in a structured, accessible fashion.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to find key messages and trends within large and complex data sets.
