BEng Railway Engineering Degree Apprenticeship

You'll develop a deep knowledge and understanding of how the railway works as an integrated, complex system. You'll become a professional engineer with a wide range of rail and rail systems technical engineering skills. You'll be accountable for your own work and that of others and will assist in the preparation and checking of design calculations.

Role

  • Under direction, assist to provide technical support to the engineering team.

  • Assist in the preparation and/or checking of design calculations.

  • Assist in ensuring that all project related engineering tasks / activities are robustly planned in accordance with timescale and budget constraints.

  • Maintain compliance with client standards, specifications, CDM and relevant Health and Safety legislation including ensuring that accurate ‘as built’ drawings and health and safety file information is produced as appropriate and returned to customer via the approved means / processes.

  • Assist with the preparation of reports and documents in line with the business document control process and procedure.

  • Outline cost estimates.

  • Support specific business objectives, as required.   

Training

  • You will be required to attend Sheffield Hallam University on block release for a total of 36 days per year
  • The degree award is BEng (Hons) Railway Engineering
  • Apprentices without Level 2 English and maths will need to achieve this level prior to taking the end point assessment.
