Apprentice Design and Draughtsperson (Engineering Level 3)

An Apprentice Draftsperson plays a pivotal role in supporting & collaborating with engineers by producing designs & drawings focusing on equipment & layout as well as supporting various engineering disciplines, including electrical, control and instrumentation with designs, creating CAD models & drawings critical for industrial and projects.

Role

Key accountabilities:

  • Produce accurate CAD models and engineering drawings in compliance with national and industry health and safety regulations
  • Interpret technical information from specifications and stakeholders to develop effective design solutions
  • Review engineering drawings to identify inaccuracies and propose solutions to ensure technical compliance
  • Design ideas and concepts to solve challenges
  • Evaluate and designs to determine cost-effective solutions
  • Demonstrate understanding of engineering codes and standards.
  • Understand and demonstrate ability to use CAD systems in 2 and 3 D modelling
  • Ability to clearly document and record management and change control
  • Understand the application of and relevance of building Information modelling.
  • Uphold company management systems, policies, and procedures throughout the design process
  • Demonstrate a commitment to ethics, sustainability, and continuous improvement in engineering design

The job is a support role, but it is expected that the apprentice in the role will build the knowledge and expertise on process and equipment design to support the development on new equipment.

Delivery Method:

  • Apprentices attend Loughborough College 1 day a week, where units relevant to the apprenticeship will be taught. College attendance is during term time only.

This apprenticeship program provides a comprehensive foundation in engineering design and draughting, offering opportunities for career progression within design and draft or Mechanical engineer.
