Job summary

The Training Hub (TH) manager will support our SWL Training Hub CIC on its journey to enable all six SWL training hubs to deliver against SWL ICB and NHSE- WT&E The SWL TH CIC will support allied providers to improve their sustainability and resilience; secure operational stability; develop more effective ways of working and help practices embed new models of care.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an experienced, competent and organized individual, with a health service background and with experience of working in primary care and/or within training hubs. They will be the face of Wandsworth as a borough and support the CIC Directors and management team to manage a range of activities specific for Wandsworth, and in line with the WT&E contract awarded to the CIC. They will need to be highly motivated, efficient and forward thinking with the ability to work autonomously where needed and adjust rapidly to the developing needs of the organisation.

We are looking for someone with excellent personnel, communication, organizational and project management skills who has the ability to work with others to support Wandsworth as a borough and to help develop the SWL TH CIC to its full potential and ensure sustainability for the future.

About us

Training Hubs are a NHSE-Workforce Training & Education (WT&E) model designed to meet the educational needs of multi-disciplinary health and social care teams bringing together NHS organisations, community providers and local authorities.

South West London Training Hub CIC is a not-for-profit organisation, set up to hold the WTE and any other contracts and working across South West London. SWL Training Hubs include Croydon, Kingston, Merton, Richmond, Sutton and Wandsworth. Whilst each Training Hub retains its independence, a key theme is working together and 'doing things once' as appropriate. Place based Training Hubs will sometimes lead on a specific project across SWL on behalf of SWL Training Hub CIC.

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop and expand student placement capacity in Wandsworth to create innovative and

high quality placements for a full range of learners to meet the workforce needs of place in line with the long term plan and other recruitment initiatives. Working closely with the HEIs, practices, students and outreach opportunities and keeping comprehensive records for future planning and reporting.

2. Lead on the expansion and availability of multi-professional educators in Wandsworth together with their capabilities to support high-quality learning placements and teaching environments.

3. Support recruitment in Wandsworth by developing suitable educational programmes for the primary care workforce that help address population health needs, service re-design and integrated care and that ensure value for money and maximising capacity across SWL.

4. Evaluate feedback and effectiveness of training and development opportunities to inform future commissioning decisions.

5. Support and embed new roles in primary care, working closely with Wandsworth PCNs.

6. Support retention in Wandsworth including promoting primary care as a first destination career to students, through schools and higher education institutions and via careers events and fairs.

7. Ensure the timely collection of data and submission of reports incl HEE Key Performance Indicators (twice yearly), SWL System Development Funds (SDF), (quarterly) and other ad-hoc project highlight reports.

8. Engage in the work of the delivery groups within SWL TH.

9. Support workforce audits and training needs analysis in Wandsworth to help inform forthcoming programmes and determine financial priorities.

10. Develop effective relationships with Wandsworth practices, Battersea Healthcare CiC, Primary Care Networks and individuals to develop a deep understanding of workforce issues.

11. Create and share a regular newsletter to highlight upcoming events and opportunities in Wandsworth and promote the workforce transformation agenda incl the use of local success stories to promote new ways of working.

12. Support and promote the Wandsworth SDF GP retention projects.

13. Identify funding opportunities and write new project proposals or bids for Wandsworth on behalf of SWL TH.

14. Promote placements, mentorship, preceptorship, GPN programme, advanced practice, apprenticeships to help support and sustain workforce transformation.

15. Work with other SWL THs to identify new opportunities and in terms of collaborative working

Person Specification

Experience

Essential
  • Experienced Healthcare Professional or experience of Practice Management
  • Minimum of 2 years in Primary Care or management experience in similar role ( HEI or training and development role)
  • Evidence of continued professional development
  • Existing knowledge of training hubs and their functions
  • Knowledge of the NHS including structure, policies and decision making
  • Working within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Identification, management and reporting of risks
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Experience of report production for issue to senior managers and other stakeholders
  • Ability to provide and process complex and sensitive information
  • Strong organisation skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and as part of team
  • Ability to use initiative and complete tasks within deadlines
  • Responsive and agile to a rapidly changing environment
  • Experience of good financial record keeping and reporting
  • Good working knowledge of excel, word, powerpoint

  • Experience of working in a project management role in the NHS

Qualifications

  • GCSE grade A to C in English and Maths
