Apprentice Secondary School Computer Science Teacher
We are delighted to offer an exciting Level 6 teacher apprenticeship opportunity.
The successful candidate will be joining an established and successful DfE approved training programme based at one of our schools. This is a fantastic opportunity to work with young and enthusiastic students and practitioners with on-the-job training and a salary.
Role

- Demonstrate a critical understanding of developments in the subject and curriculum areas
- Demonstrate an understanding of and take responsibility for promoting high standards of literacy, articulacy and the correct use of standard English, whatever the teacher’s specialist subject
- Plan and teach well-structured lessons in accordance with the school’s teaching and learning policy
- Impart knowledge and develop understanding through effective use of lesson time
- Promote a love of learning and children’s intellectual curiosity
- Set homework and plan other out-of-class activities to consolidate and extend the knowledge and understanding pupils have acquired
- Reflect systematically on the effectiveness of lessons and approaches to teaching
- Contribute to the design and provision of an engaging curriculum within the relevant subject area(s)
- Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils
- To ensure the effective and efficient deployment of classroom support where appropriate

- Know and understand how to assess the relevant subject and curriculum areas, including statutory assessment requirements

- Use relevant data to monitor progress, set targets, and plan subsequent lessons
- Give pupils regular feedback and encourage pupils to respond to the feedback
- Manage behaviour effectively to ensure a good and safe learning environment in line with the school’s behaviour policy
- Have clear rules and routines for behaviour in classrooms, and take responsibility for promoting good and courteous behaviour
- Have high expectations of behaviour, and establish a framework for discipline with a range of strategies
- Manage classes effectively, using approaches which are appropriate to pupils’ needs in order to involve and motivate them
- Maintain good relationships with pupils, exercise appropriate authority, and act decisively when necessary
- Develop effective professional relationships with colleagues, knowing how and when to draw on advice and specialist support
- Deploy support staff effectively
- Communicate effectively with parents with regard to pupils’ achievement and well-being
Training
Apprentices will undertake the level 6 teacher apprenticeship programme delivered by Staffordshire University.
Teaching will be a mix of on the job and off the job training delivered face to face in university and online sessions each week. The programme is delivered using a blended learning model.
Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship, apprentices will achieve their level 6 teacher apprenticeship and gain Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
