Associate Project Management Apprenticeship

The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) in Cambridge has an exciting Associate Project Management Apprenticeship. BAS is currently undergoing a multi-million-pound project investing in improving and modernising its Antarctic infrastructure which includes the decarbonisation of the UK’s main research station at the Rothera Research Station.

Role

In this role you will be responsible for gaining an understanding and knowledge of projects undertaken within BAS with a particular focus on either Rothera Air Infrastructure, Rothera Renewables or Signy Redevelopment. You will support the Project Manager and the other Antarctic Improvement and Modernisation PMO team members in delivering the programme against key project milestones. You will need to know what needs to be achieved, how it will be achieved, how long it will take and how much it will cost.

You will be supported to take the lead on a variety of project aspects. To do this you will:

  • Support the estimation, planning and delivery of the project
  • Identify the resource required
  • Define key activities, dependencies, and project milestones
  • Prepare a plan for stakeholder engagement
  • Track progress against agreed milestones
  • Report on project progress

This apprenticeship will provide the successful candidate with the tools, knowledge and experience that is needed to successfully manage complex projects. It would ideally suit someone with some commercial/industry experience who is looking to move into a project support role whilst developing professional skills and experience within this area.

Training

You will undertake professional development and training as part of a cohort of apprentices with Provek completing the Level 4 Associate Project Manager apprenticeship. This professional development programme delivered over 15-months covers essential themes that are designed to develop your knowledge and experience to become a well-rounded, technically proficient project manager. Sessions will be delivered online through workshops, small group study sessions and self-guided study. You will also be supported on a 1:1 basis throughout your apprenticeship by a dedicated Professional Coach.

Throughout the course you will build a portfolio of work, demonstrating your application of project management tools and techniques.

Towards the end of the programme, you will be supported on a 1:1 basis to prepare you for your End Point Assessment. The End Point Assessment will include the completion of a Workplace Project to enable you to demonstrate the required Knowledge, Behaviours and Skills required to pass.

Upon successful completion of the apprenticeship and subject to an offer of continued employment within UKRI, the role can include possible visits (up to 12 weeks each in duration) to research stations in Antarctica.
