Job summary

We are seeking to appoint to a substantive 0.5wte Specialty Doctor post in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery.

This post provides an excellent opportunity for suitably qualified specialists to actively contribute to the further development of a modern Oral Surgery service within this highly regarded Trust.

Candidates will work as part of a friendly and committed team. Previous experience in oral surgery at a middle grade level is desirable. The job entails clinical commitments including running outpatient clinics, operating lists under GA and LA, and teaching and clinical audits.

Applicants must have full current GDC registration.

Main duties of the job

The principal role of the post-holder is to be an active member of the clinical team undertaking outpatient and acute access clinics across the Oral & Maxillofacial Department.

To provide high quality assessment, treatment and management for service users. This will include the examination of new patients, and review patients and to carry out local anaesthetic surgical procedures under the direction of the consultant.

To carry out pre- and post- operative clerking and management of inpatients and day case patients

To attend operating sessions both in main theatres and the day case unit, to assist and operate under supervision

To provide clinical activity that is efficient to optimise access times for patients.

To deal with clinical queries that arise from personal clinical activity and that of peers.

To be aware of clinical governance and clinical risk management and take an active role in their implementation.

To contribute to the learning experience of Specialty Registrar Trainees within the department aswell as teaching and training medical and other students as well as other members of the MDT.

To work seamlessly and respectfully as part of the wider team involving other Trust Specialties, nursing, technicians, allied health professions, administrative and theatre staff.

To contribute to academic, audit and clinical governance issues within the department and the Trust.

Person Specification

Education and qualifications:

Essential
  • BDS
  • Full GDC registration

Knowledge & Experience:

Essential
  • Sufficient years of OMFS experience
  • Previous on-call experience
Desirable
  • ATLS and APLS certificates

Skills and ability:

Essential
  • Willingness to learn and work in sub-specialty clinics
  • Ability to integrate with a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to change and adapt, responding to changing circumstances
  • Takes responsibility for own actions
