Apprentice Engineering Technician

This is an exciting learning opportunity in an industry leading business, pioneering wind speed measurements using laser light technology. Apprentices will learn everything about Lidar technology and will put this into practice building, commissioning, testing, integrating, deploying and servicing Lidars.

Role

The Apprentice Engineering Technician will work alongside skilled engineers and Technicians every day to learn how the product works.

This will be achieved through:

  • Direct hands-on training
  • Learning how to build test, commission, integrate and deploy our Lidars

Most of this work is conducted at our purpose-built Engineering, Production and Service facility near Malvern with occasional time spent at our remote testing site base near Pershore.

Once you have mastered the skills to build new Lidars we’ll introduce you to servicing and maintaining lidars.

We have a huge fleet of Lidars distributed across the globe.  These Lidars are periodically returned for service, repair and upgrade activities.  It’s anticipated that once fully qualified the Apprentice Engineering Technician will join our Service Team as a Service Engineer, where they will own the whole Service process from start to finish.

This will include a full detailed report of the received condition, recommendations for repair and or service, detailing parts required to complete the repair or service, completing the repair to the highest quality standards and finally preparing the unit to be packed and returned.

Training

Formal training is delivered at HWGTA, located in HWGTA located in Worcester (WR4 9GN):

  • Duration approximately 40-45 months
  • Year 1 includes 26-42 weeks off the job training to cover practical and theory aspects

  • Years 2,3 & 4 will be based in company developing skills in preparation for the end point assessment to gain your Engineering Technician Technical Support Level 3 qualification

You will receive monthly visits from your assigned Learning and Development Specialist, who will set you work, monitor your development and wellbeing, and discuss training sessions. They will also prepare you for your End Point Assessment.

Additional training for functional skills in English and Maths will be undertaken if needed.

There is also a five-day teambuilding residential trip that is held in the spring of each year offered to all apprentices on programme.

  • It is anticipated that upon successful completion of the apprenticeship candidates will be able to join our service team as a Service engineer. Other roles may also be available where skill sets acquired during the apprenticeship could be applied
