Senior EPOS Transformation Business Analyst

Senior EPOS Business Analyst / Transformation Consultant

Location: Croydon, London – Hybrid, 2 days onsite per week, with travel to relevant sites

Contract: 7–8 months

IR35 Status: Outside IR35

We are seeking an experienced Senior EPOS Business Analyst / Transformation Consultant to support a major technology transformation programme within a large, multi-site retail organisation.

The organisation is embarking on a significant transformation involving the replacement of its existing Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) platform alongside a refresh of its associated hardware estate. With retail sites supported by head office and central warehouse and distribution operations, the programme will require a clear understanding of retail processes, technology integrations and the operational demands of a distributed business.

This is an opportunity for a commercially minded consultant who combines strong business analysis skills with practical EPOS transformation experience. You will bridge Operations, Technology, Finance and external suppliers, translating business needs into clear requirements, supporting solution and vendor selection, and coordinating the planning required for successful implementation.

The role offers a blend of strategic analysis and hands-on delivery coordination, with the opportunity to shape the future EPOS solution and associated technology estate.

Business Analysis & Requirements

  • Lead stakeholder interviews and workshops to understand existing processes, pain points, operational requirements and system limitations.
  • Document current and future-state processes, producing prioritised functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Define project scope, acceptance criteria, dependencies and a clear requirements catalogue.
  • Challenge existing ways of working and distinguish genuine business needs from unnecessary customisation.
  • Identify integration, data, operational and technical considerations that may affect the future solution.

EPOS Replacement & Vendor Selection

  • Support the assessment and selection of a replacement EPOS platform.
  • Lead or contribute to RFI/RFP processes, vendor demonstrations, fit-gap assessments and supplier evaluations.
  • Compare potential solutions against business requirements, technical suitability, implementation approach and commercial considerations.
  • Support due diligence, cost comparisons and recommendations for the preferred supplier.
  • Assess requirements across checkout workflows, product and pricing management, promotions, payments, stock visibility, reporting and wider business system integrations.

Hardware Refresh & Technology Coordination

  • Assess the existing EPOS hardware estate, including tills, workstations, scanners, receipt printers, payment devices, peripherals and associated infrastructure.
  • Work with Technology teams to define future hardware requirements and the refresh and deployment approach.
  • Coordinate site-readiness requirements, supplier dependencies and deployment considerations.
  • Align hardware replacement with the EPOS migration to ensure both workstreams progress effectively.
  • Consider additional retail technologies such as handheld devices, tablets and self-service kiosks where appropriate.

Stakeholder & Supplier Management

  • Act as the link between Operations, Technology, Finance/Commercial and external suppliers.
  • Facilitate discussions, document decisions and ensure actions are progressed.
  • Manage competing requirements and stakeholder expectations, supporting clear and timely decision-making.
  • Maintain alignment across project scope, dependencies, suppliers and delivery plans.

Project & Implementation Coordination

  • Support the integrated project plan, milestones, governance, resources and delivery controls.
  • Track risks, issues, dependencies, decisions, changes and progress against agreed timelines.
  • Coordinate activities covering solution design, integrations, data preparation, testing, UAT and operational readiness.
  • Support pilot planning, phased rollout, cutover, issue resolution and transition into business-as-usual (BAU).
  • Maintain project documentation, progress reporting and stakeholder communications.

Essential Experience

We are looking for someone with:

  • Substantial experience in EPOS/POS business analysis or transformation, including involvement in major implementations or replacement programmes.
  • Strong business analysis, process mapping and requirements management skills.
  • Experience within a large, multi-site retail or similarly distributed environment.
  • A good understanding of EPOS functionality, including pricing, promotions, payments, stock, reporting, integrations and associated hardware.
  • Experience engaging stakeholders across business and Technology teams.
  • Exposure to vendor evaluation, procurement, supplier management and commercial comparisons.
  • Experience coordinating project activities, managing dependencies and maintaining delivery plans.
  • Excellent analytical, documentation, communication and problem-solving skills.

Desirable

  • Retail supply chain, central warehousing, distribution, purchasing or branch replenishment.
  • Pharmacy, health and beauty, or convenience retail.
  • EPOS hardware refreshes and multi-site technology deployments.
  • Integrations between EPOS, stock management, finance, reporting and wider enterprise systems.
  • Data migration, system testing, UAT, pilot delivery and phased rollout.
  • Project or programme leadership alongside business analysis.
  • Handheld devices, tablets, payment peripherals or self-service kiosks.

Interested? If you have experience supporting or leading EPOS transformation programmes and are available for an outside IR35 contract, we'd be keen to hear from you.
