Based in Stewartby, Bedford, Andersen EV designs and manufactures premium residential and workplace EV charging products. Our chargers combine distinctive design with intelligent technology, including our patented hidden cable solution.

As we continue to evolve our products and expand our engineering capability, we're looking for an experienced Senior Electronics Design Engineer to join our team.

The Role

We're looking for a hands-on electronics design engineer to play a key role in developing the next generation of electronic hardware for our EV charging products.

The position focuses on evolving existing hardware designs, developing new PCB solutions and introducing improvements in performance, reliability, functionality and manufacturability.

Working closely with our firmware, mechanical engineering and production teams, you'll be involved throughout the hardware development lifecycle, from circuit design and prototype development through validation, compliance testing, certification and introduction into production.

You'll also support the investigation of field and production returns, using fault analysis and practical engineering experience to identify root causes and feed improvements into future hardware designs.

This is primarily a design and development role, offering the opportunity to take technical ownership of hardware improvements and see your designs become part of our evolving product range.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop analogue, digital and microcontroller-based electronic circuits and PCBs.

  • Evolve existing electronic hardware and develop new designs to improve product performance, functionality, reliability and cost.

  • Create and maintain schematics and PCB designs using Altium Designer.

  • Select and evaluate components, considering performance, availability and manufacturability.

  • Undertake prototype PCB bring-up, debugging, testing and hardware validation.

  • Plan, perform and support compliance testing, including EMC, electrical safety and relevant product standards.

  • Work closely with firmware and mechanical engineers to develop and integrate new hardware functionality.

  • Investigate field and production returns, diagnose electronic hardware faults and undertake structured root-cause analysis.

  • Translate investigation findings into design improvements and corrective actions.

  • Support the introduction of new and updated PCB designs into manufacturing.

Essential Experience and Skills

  • Degree in Electronics Engineering, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.

  • At least five years of relevant commercial electronic hardware design experience.

  • Strong analogue and digital electronic circuit design experience.

  • Good practical experience using Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB design.

  • Hands-on experience of PCB bring-up, testing and debugging using electronic laboratory equipment.

  • Experience developing microcontroller-based electronic products.

  • Experience designing mains-powered electronics.

  • Good understanding of EMC design principles and hardware validation.

  • Experience supporting EMC, electrical safety and product compliance testing.

  • Ability to investigate hardware failures, identify root causes and develop effective engineering solutions.

  • Experience developing electronic hardware designs from concept through validation and into production.

Desirable Experience

  • EV charging, power electronics, industrial control or automotive electronics.

  • RF communications, wireless connectivity and antenna integration.

  • STMicroelectronics, Espressif or Microchip microcontrollers.

  • Embedded firmware programming, particularly C/C++ for microcontroller-based systems.

  • Experience of relevant IEC, EN or other product certification standards.

  • Design for manufacture, design for test and electronics production introduction.

  • Experience investigating field failures, warranty returns and production-related hardware issues.

Why Join Andersen EV?

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the ongoing development of premium EV charging technology within a growing UK engineering and manufacturing business.

You'll work on evolving our existing electronics and developing new hardware solutions, with the opportunity to influence design decisions and take ownership of technical developments.
