IT Manager

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on IT Manager to take ownership of the IT function within a growing engineering business operating across multiple UK sites.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys being technically involved, rather than simply managing from a distance. You will be responsible for ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the company's IT infrastructure, systems and services, while identifying opportunities to improve, automate and modernise business processes through technology.

Working closely with colleagues across the business, you will play a key role in supporting day-to-day operations, developing IT capabilities and ensuring technology continues to support the company's growth.

Role Details

You will have responsibility for the day-to-day management and development of the IT environment across multiple locations, including:

• Managing and maintaining the Microsoft IT environment, including infrastructure, systems, networks and user support.
• Taking a hands-on approach to troubleshooting, resolving technical issues and supporting end users.
• Managing and supporting the company's ERP systems, ensuring they meet operational and business requirements.
• Maintaining and developing SQL Server databases, including reporting, queries and data management.
• Identifying opportunities to automate manual processes and improve business efficiency through technology.
• Supporting and developing integrations between business systems.
• Exploring opportunities to develop in-house solutions and applications.
• Managing relationships with external IT suppliers, service providers and software vendors.
• Managing the IT budget, controlling expenditure and planning future investment.
• Ensuring appropriate IT security, data protection, backup and disaster recovery arrangements are in place.
• Providing IT support and ensuring consistent systems and services across all company sites.

Your Skills & Experience

We are looking for a technically capable IT professional who enjoys getting involved, solving problems and making things work better.

You will ideally have:

• Proven experience in an IT Manager, IT Systems Manager or similar senior technical IT role.
• Strong hands-on experience within a Microsoft environment.
• Good knowledge and experience of ERP systems.
• Practical experience with Microsoft SQL Server, including database management, SQL queries and reporting.
• Experience of automating business processes and improving operational efficiency.
• An understanding of systems integration and data flows between applications.
• The ability to manage an IT budget and make commercially sensible technology decisions.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues.

Desirable experience:

• Knowledge of development languages such as PHP, Python or similar.
• Experience developing or supporting bespoke business applications.
• Experience working within an engineering, manufacturing or multi-site business.
• Familiarity with Microsoft 365, Azure and modern cloud-based technologies.
