Quantitative Developer
An Opportunity to break into Quantitative Finance
Are you a talented Python Developer looking to take your career in an exciting new direction? Interested in financial markets, technology and solving complex problems?
This is an excellent opportunity to break into the world of quantitative finance, joining a highly collaborative team working at the intersection of software engineering, quantitative research and financial markets.
We're looking for a technically strong developer with excellent Python skills, a passion for building high-performance software and an appetite to learn. You don't necessarily need previous financial services experience – what's important is your programming ability, problem-solving skills and genuine interest in applying technology to finance.
Working closely with Quant and Technology teams, you'll help develop and scale the pricing, risk and decision-making models that support live trading strategies. You'll have real ownership, exposure to production systems and the opportunity to make a tangible impact from day one.
Role Details
You'll play a key role in improving the technology and infrastructure that enables quantitative research to move efficiently into production.
This is a varied, technically challenging position where you'll work across multiple programming languages, optimise performance and help build robust, scalable systems.
Key responsibilities include:
- Developing and optimising high-performance applications primarily in Python, with opportunities to work with Java and C++.
- Exploring Python/Java/C++ interoperability and identifying the best technical solutions for complex problems.
- Working closely with Quant and Technology teams to improve research workflows, data acquisition, distribution, caching and parallelisation.
- Designing and implementing scalable, modular and maintainable production code.
- Improving software development practices, including testing, release management, packaging and deployment.
- Helping bridge the gap between quantitative research and production technology.
What we're looking for
We're interested in bright, technically capable developers who enjoy solving complex problems and want to apply their skills in a new and intellectually stimulating environment.
Essential experience:
- Strong Python programming skills.
- A solid understanding of core computer science principles, including data structures, memory management and concurrency.
- Experience developing scalable, high-performance and well-structured production software.
- Some experience working with relational databases and SQL.
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics, Economics or a related discipline.
- A genuine interest in financial markets and quantitative finance.
Desirable experience:
- Java or another JVM-based language.
- Exposure to C++.
- Git, Docker, Jenkins or other CI/CD and deployment tools.
- Experience with parallel computing, performance optimisation or distributed systems.
- Exposure to financial modelling, fixed income analytics or quantitative research.
Don't worry if you haven't worked in finance before. If you have a strong software engineering background and are excited by the opportunity to apply it to financial markets, we'd love to hear from you.
Salary and Benefits
- Competitive base salary of £110,000–£120,000, depending on experience.
- Additional performance-related bonus (25%)
- Four days per week working from the London office, with Fridays working from home.
- The opportunity to transition into the highly rewarding world of quantitative finance.
- Direct exposure to quantitative researchers, trading strategies and financial modelling.
- A collaborative, entrepreneurial environment where your ideas and contributions genuinely matter.
- The chance to develop your technical skills across Python, Java and C++.
- An intellectually stimulating role with plenty of scope for professional development.
This is more than just another development role. It's an opportunity to take your existing software engineering skills into a specialist area of finance, work alongside highly talented quantitative professionals and develop expertise in an industry where technology plays a critical role.
If you're an ambitious developer looking for your next challenge, keen to learn and excited by the prospect of working at the cutting edge of technology and financial markets, this could be the ideal next step in your career.
