HPC Scientific Software Engineer- (C++ Python GPU Computing) Remote UK

HPC / Scientific Software Engineer – (C++, Python, GPU Computing) Remote UK Wide

Salary: £50,000 – £55,000

The Opportunity

Arden Resourcing is working with an established organisation at the forefront of advanced scientific computing, high-performance computing (HPC) and complex engineering research. Due to continued growth and significant investment in next-generation supercomputing infrastructure, we are looking for an HPC / Scientific Software Engineer to join a specialist team developing high-performance software, numerical algorithms and large-scale simulation capabilities. This is an opportunity to work with state-of-the-art HPC and GPU technologies, developing scalable computational software that supports advanced scientific research and complex engineering challenges. The role would particularly suit someone with a background in scientific software development, computational physics, applied mathematics or numerical simulation, who enjoys combining research with hands-on programming. You will join a close-knit team of specialists within a wider scientific computing group, helping to maximise the capabilities of new supercomputing infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimise and maintain high-performance scientific software using C++, Python or similar programming languages.
  • Design and implement numerical algorithms to solve complex scientific and engineering problems.
  • Develop scalable software capable of running efficiently across GPU-accelerated and parallel computing environments.
  • Build and improve large-scale modelling and simulation applications.
  • Investigate new HPC technologies, GPU architectures and computational approaches.
  • Apply mathematical techniques, including numerical methods and linear algebra, to scientific computing challenges.
  • Improve software performance, scalability and computational efficiency.
  • Collaborate with researchers, computational scientists and software engineers to deliver innovative solutions.
  • Contribute to ongoing research and the development of advanced simulation frameworks.

About You

We are interested in speaking with engineers and researchers who combine strong programming skills with a solid understanding of scientific computing, mathematics and numerical simulation.

Essential Experience:

  • Strong programming experience with C++ or another compiled language, ideally alongside Python.
  • Experience developing computationally intensive, numerical or scientific software.
  • Good understanding of mathematical modelling, numerical methods, linear algebra or scientific algorithms.
  • Experience working with HPC systems, parallel computing or large-scale computational environments.
  • Strong working knowledge of Linux/UNIX environments.
  • A background in applied mathematics, physics, computational science, scientific research or a related discipline.
  • Experience developing software to solve complex scientific or engineering problems, rather than solely using existing simulation packages.

Desirable Experience:

  • GPU programming, acceleration and optimisation, particularly CUDA or similar technologies.
  • Parallel programming using MPI, OpenMP or other HPC frameworks.
  • Performance profiling, code optimisation and scalability improvements.
  • Experience developing simulation software within one or more of the following areas:
  • Any of the following domain experience, Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), Electromagnetics, Plasma Physics and Simulation, Nuclear Science or Computational Physics
  • Experience working within academic research, scientific institutions or research-led engineering environments.
  • An MSc, PhD or equivalent research experience in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science or a related discipline.

Benefits

  • Performance-related bonus.
  • Excellent pension provision.
  • Generous annual leave entitlement.
  • Opportunities for technical development and progression.
  • Exposure to next-generation supercomputing infrastructure and advanced GPU technologies.
  • The opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge scientific research and computational engineering projects.

Interested?

If you're an HPC Engineer, Scientific Software Engineer, Research Software Engineer or Computational Engineer with strong programming skills and a background in numerical simulation or scientific computing, we'd be keen to hear from you.
