Role OverviewWe are seeking a highly skilled and automation-focused Software Developer in Test (SDET) to join a newly established Centre of Excellence (CoE). This strategic team is responsible for delivering secure, scalable, and production-grade digital solutions while defining and upholding engineering standards across multiple client engagements.
The ideal candidate will have strong experience in test automation using Java, a deep understanding of modern testing frameworks and practices, and a proven track record of working within or helping to establish a Centre of Excellence in a financial services or banking environment.
Key Responsibilities- Design, develop, and maintain robust automated test frameworks and test suites using Java.
- Collaborate with developers, DevOps, and QA teams to ensure high-quality, testable code and continuous delivery.
- Define and implement test strategies for functional, integration, regression, and performance testing.
- Contribute to the development of reusable testing assets and frameworks within the CoE.
- Ensure test coverage across APIs, UI, and backend systems in complex enterprise environments.
- Participate in code reviews, architecture discussions, and sprint planning sessions.
- Advocate for test automation, quality engineering, and shift-left testing practices.
- Support the evolution of CoE testing standards and best practices across engagements.
- Proven experience in test automation using Java in enterprise-grade applications.
- Strong knowledge of testing frameworks and tools such as JUnit, TestNG, Selenium, Cucumber, RestAssured, or similar.
- Experience testing RESTful APIs, microservices, and web-based applications.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and integration of automated tests into DevOps workflows.
- Prior experience working in regulated environments such as banking, fintech, or insurance.
- Demonstrated experience contributing to or establishing a Centre of Excellence in a financial services context.
- Strong understanding of Agile methodologies and quality engineering principles.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills across multidisciplinary teams.
- Experience with performance and load testing tools (e.g., JMeter, Gatling).
- Familiarity with containerized environments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
- Exposure to test data management and service virtualization.
- Prior consulting experience or experience in client-facing roles.
- Initial contract engagement with a clear pathway to permanent employment.
- Hybrid working model: minimum two days onsite in London, with flexibility to travel to other UK client sites as required.
- This role forms part of a long-term strategic capability within a joint consulting and technology delivery partnership.
