Electronic Design Engineer

A small, well-established electronics design consultancy is looking for an all-round Electronic Engineer to join its team on a 4-month contract. You'll work on a wide variety of client projects, taking designs from concept through schematic and PCB layout to prototype and test. It's a hands-on role where you'll see projects end to end rather than working on one narrow piece.

ROLE: Electronic Design Engineer

LOCATION: Staverton, Gloucestershire

RATE: up to £65ph (outside IR35)

DURATION: 3-4 months initial

What you'll be doing

  • Designing analogue and digital circuits across a range of client products
  • Schematic capture and PCB layout in KiCad
  • Component selection, BOMs and working with PCB manufacturers and assemblers
  • Building, testing and debugging prototypes on the bench
  • Writing design documentation and supporting clients through to production

Essential skills for the Electronic Design Engineer are:

  • Hands-on experience with KiCad for schematic capture and PCB layout
  • Good all-round electronics knowledge: analogue, digital and mixed-signal design
  • Confident with bench equipment: oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies, soldering and rework
  • Experience taking boards from design through to working prototype
  • A practical, flexible approach suited to a small team and varied projects
  • Degree or HND in Electronic Engineering, or equivalent experience

Nice to have

  • Microcontroller firmware in C (e.g. STM32, PIC, Nordic)
  • Design for EMC and compliance testing (CE/UKCA)
  • Circuit simulation (e.g. LTspice)
  • Consultancy or client-facing experience

Work is predominantly on-site in Cheltenham. Some remote working (1-2 days per week) is available. Working hours can be flexible
