Software Systems Developer (with Embedded experience)

Are you an experienced electronics engineer with a passion for building reliable, high-performance systems? We’re looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented individual to join our team and contribute to the design, development, and support of innovative embedded hardware and systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop analogue and digital circuits using microprocessors and associated peripherals.
  • Work with PCB design and circuit simulation tools to produce and test hardware designs.
  • Engage with compliance and regulatory standards for the electronics industry (UKCA, EU, etc.).
  • Develop low-level microprocessor software using C (e.g., PIC microcontrollers).
  • Set up, diagnose, and maintain communication networks including PSTN modem, TCP/IP, and 4/5G.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate hardware with software tools and remote systems.

Essential Skills & Experience

Hardware Design

  • Analogue & digital circuit design, including discrete semiconductors and op-amps.
  • Familiarity with microprocessors, peripherals, and simple serial buses (SPI, I2C).
  • Experience using:
  • PCB layout/design tools (e.g., Fusion 360/Eagle)
  • Circuit simulation tools (e.g., SPICE)
  • Gerber viewers and legacy design tools

Compliance & Standards

  • Solid understanding of industry regulations and compliance processes.
  • Experience selecting and applying relevant standards (Railway experience is a bonus).

Embedded Software Development

  • Proficient in low-level C programming for microcontrollers (PIC or similar).
  • Experience with MPLABX or equivalent development environments.

Networking

  • Strong troubleshooting skills for remote connectivity.
  • Ability to set up and maintain communication systems over PSTN, TCP/IP, and mobile networks (4G/5G).

Desirable Skills (Nice to Have)

  • Experience in high-voltage design (e.g., railway traction systems, instrumentation up to 15kV).
  • DC-DC converter design and transformer selection.
  • Experience with network peripherals such as:
  • 4G/5G modems
  • WiFi modules
  • LoRaWAN interfaces

Legacy System Support (Consultant-level skills welcomed):

  • System-on-Module (SOM) experience with platforms like Raspberry Pi or WinCE.
  • Application development in C#/.NET for device tools, remote updates, diagnostics, and encrypted communication.
  • Visual Studio or LabWindows CVI for application-level tools.
