Senior Mechatronics Engineer

Designing innovative biotech instrumentation with mechatronics, optics, and microfluidics

Based in Cambridge, this company develops laboratory instruments that streamline research into the behaviour of individual cells, thus helping accelerate our understanding of human disease mechanisms and ultimately the discovery of better treatments. Their technology depends on a combination of precision mechatronics, sensors, and microfluidics.

As their designs mature an opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mechatronics Engineer to help lead their system design and engineering activities. The role calls for extensive experience developing comparable systems such as PCR-based or microfluidics-based diagnostics systems combined with an impressive academic background in Electronics, Mechatronics or Mechanical Engineering.  Crucially, you will need to be expert in bringing the constituent technologies together within a successful design, and taking this through to manufacture.

You will need:

  • An excellent academic background including a 1st or 2.1 in Mechatronics or a related subject from a leading university
  • Expertise in the design of complex mechatronic systems and substantial experience of taking such systems through the full development lifecycle
  • Strong collaboration and problem solving skills
  • Full, existing UK work permission without restriction or the need for sponsorship.
  • Ability to attend the Cambridge office daily as this is an on-site role.

The following are highly advantageous but not essential: Embedded software development skills, Python scripting for automation, experience in developing optical assemblies, microfluidics, precision motor control, and aptitude with mechanical and electronic CAD packages.

This is an exciting time to join, as the company's revolutionary products reaches customers and begins to accelerate healthcare research. This is a varied role, working with multiple advanced technologies, and with substantial influence on how the product develops. You will be working as part of a bright, multidisciplinary team within a forward looking and ambitious company. A highly competitive salary and benefits package are on offer to the successful candidate.
