Principal Unreal Engineer

Portsmouth, England, United Kingdom (Hybrid) 2-3 x per week

You will lead the development of sophisticated synthetic environments and autonomous systems designed to solve critical, real-world problems. This role grants you the autonomy to shape technical strategy and drive genuine innovation within a specialist defence consultancy.

The Essentials

To be considered for this role, you must meet the following baseline criteria:

• Sole British Nationality (required due to security clearance requirements).
• Expertise with Unreal Engine 5, with a deep understanding of its ecosystem.
• High proficiency in C++ within a production environment.

The Work

As a technical leader, your day-to-day focus will involve:

• Driving Technical Delivery: Leading the creation of Unreal Engine projects, complex digital twins, and advanced robotic simulations.
• Strategic Advising: Acting as a trusted subject matter expert, guiding stakeholders on emerging modeling techniques and technical innovation.
• Bid & Relationship Management: Nurturing high-level relationships and coordinating technical bid activities for critical projects.
• Architectural & Team Leadership: Shaping the company’s technical footprint by designing robust software architectures and mentoring engineering teams.

Skills & Experience

We are looking for a blend of deep technical execution and strong leadership capabilities:

• Simulation Expertise: Proven experience with entity- or event-based simulation.
• Optimization: A track record of modifying large-scale projects to fit strict hardware and performance constraints.
• Leadership & Collaboration: Experience with line management, supporting engineers in their professional growth, and managing stakeholders effectively.
• Technical Authoring: Comfort writing clear, authoritative technical reports.
• Desirable: Proficiency in C# or Python is a strong plus.
