Location: Andover, Hampshire (Hybrid – 2-3 days per week onsite) The opportunity Are you an experienced Python Software Engineer interested in the next evolution of software development?
I'm looking for two AI Systems Engineers to join the technology function of an established, growing UK business operating in a regulated, customer-focused environment.
This is an opportunity to help shape how software is designed, developed and delivered, combining strong engineering principles with the practical use of AI-assisted development tools and agents.
You'll build Python-based applications, backend services, APIs, integrations and automation solutions that improve business processes, reduce manual work and support operational performance.
Importantly, this isn't simply about using AI to generate code. You'll apply your software engineering expertise to direct, review and validate AI-generated outputs, retaining responsibility for the quality, security and maintainability of everything you deliver. What you'll be doing Design, develop, test and maintain Python applications and backend services. Build and consume REST APIs, develop system integrations and automate business workflows. Work with SQL databases, Git and modern software development practices. Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to translate requirements into practical, scalable technical solutions. Use AI-assisted development tools and agents to accelerate coding, testing, documentation and troubleshooting. Review, refine and validate AI-generated code, ensuring it meets engineering, security and quality standards. Contribute to technical design, code reviews, deployment, monitoring and ongoing production support. Identify opportunities to simplify processes, improve system reliability and create reusable software components. What I'm looking for Commercial experience developing and supporting software applications or services. Strong hands-on Python development experience, including production code and troubleshooting. Experience building and consuming REST APIs. Good working knowledge of SQL databases and Git source control. Understanding of software engineering principles, testing, debugging and maintainable code design. Experience with version control, pull requests, code reviews and continuous integration. Ability to translate business requirements into secure, reliable and supportable technical solutions. Desirable experience:
JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Flask, FastAPI, cloud-hosted environments, Docker, CI/CD pipelines, message queues, event-driven architecture, building workflow automation, internal applications and business system integrations, AI-assisted development tools and/or agent-based development workflows. You don't need to be an AI researcher or machine learning specialist. I'm looking for a capable software engineer who understands how to build good software and is enthusiastic about using AI to improve the development process.
