Principal Service Designer – Contract

Location: Leeds – two days on site per week
Rate: £550 per day, Inside IR35
Contract: Until 31 March 2027
Working pattern: Full-time
Clearance: BPSS required

We’re looking for an experienced Principal Service Designer to lead the design and improvement of complex services, balancing user needs, business goals and technology capabilities.

The role

• Lead end-to-end service design across digital and offline channels.
• Create service blueprints, user journeys and ecosystem maps.
• Turn research findings into practical service improvements.
• Facilitate workshops and influence stakeholders.
• Collaborate with researchers, product managers and engineers.
• Mentor designers and measure the impact of service changes.

What you’ll need

• Strong experience designing complex, end-to-end services.
• Experience delivering to government service design standards.
• Expertise in service blueprinting, journey mapping and workshop facilitation.
• Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
• Experience mentoring and supporting other designers.
• Confidence using design, prototyping and collaborative mapping tools.

Public-sector or regulated-environment experience would be beneficial.
