Senior IT Infrastructure Engineer

Infrastructure work that keeps the UK running

Experis are partnering with an exciting technology business working in a niche area that makes a real, positive impact on the UK. Their systems support critical national infrastructure, helping operators spot problems sooner and keep essential services running for homes and businesses across the country. They build their own products in house and deliver them as services to their customers, so IT here is not a Back Office function. It is part of what the business delivers.

Why you'll enjoy it

You'll join a highly skilled, highly collaborative team who take real pride in their work. They build it and they run it, so if a task keeps coming back, they automate it and move on to the next interesting problem. A support rota protects everyone's focus time, and you'll get half a day every week for innovation and learning. It's a small team with real influence, where good ideas reach decision makers quickly, and you'll be working with modern practices including infrastructure as code, Git and CI/CD. They're hiring at Engineer or Senior level depending on who they meet, so if you're not sure which fits, apply anyway.

What you'll work on

Your role will be varied. You'll run and improve the virtualisation, storage, backup and high availability platform behind their managed service, and deploy and automate clustered environments both on their own platform and at customer sites. You'll look after customer connectivity across VPNs, routing and firewalls, handle second and third line incidents and get to the root cause, and deliver projects, migrations and improvements. Security and resilience run through everything, from patching to ISO 27001 controls.

What you'll bring

The business is genuinely open on skill set and cares far more about how you think and learn than ticking every box. Linux experience would be a nice to have, ideally alongside some exposure to virtualisation, networking and Scripting or automation. Above all, they're looking for someone curious and hands on who enjoys building things, understanding how they work and sharing ideas with the team.

What's on offer

  • Up to £75,000 depending on experience
  • Hybrid working, 2 days a week in the office
  • 35 days' holiday including bank holidays
  • Private health insurance
  • Annual training budget, paid certifications and professional memberships
  • Weekly innovation time and company activity days
