Portfolio Management Office - PMO- Manchester

About The Role

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a PMO to work for our client within the Public sector. This is initially a 3 month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Manchester.

We are looking for an experienced PMO professional to support the successful delivery of a portfolio of projects and programmes.

The role will focus on maintaining effective project controls, monitoring delivery progress, managing risks and dependencies, supporting financial and resource planning, and ensuring accurate reporting across the portfolio.

Working closely with Delivery Managers, Product Owners and wider stakeholders, you will help ensure projects remain on track and that teams have the processes, information and governance required to deliver effectively.

Responsibilities:

  • Project Controls & Governance
  • Maintain effective project controls across scope, timelines, resources, budgets, risks, issues and dependencies.
  • Monitor project progress against agreed plans and outcomes, escalating concerns where appropriate.
  • Support Delivery Managers with planning, prioritisation and ongoing portfolio management.
  • Maintain project documentation, action logs, governance records and reporting.
  • Support project closure and effectively manage changes or deviations throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Reporting & Financial Management
  • Produce clear and accurate project and portfolio reporting for stakeholders and senior leadership.
  • Track project expenditure and support regular financial forecasting.
  • Monitor resource demand and capacity across the portfolio.
  • Provide meaningful project information to support effective decision-making.
  • Monitor third-party costs, purchase orders and Statements of Work where applicable.
  • Risk & Dependency Management
  • Maintain and manage project risk and issue registers.
  • Identify blockers, risks and dependencies, ensuring these are appropriately tracked, escalated and resolved.
  • Coordinate dependencies across different projects, teams and external suppliers.
  • Support appropriate governance and assurance processes throughout delivery.
  • Stakeholder & Team Coordination
  • Build effective working relationships with Delivery Managers, Product Owners, project teams and key stakeholders.
  • Organise and coordinate regular project reviews, governance meetings and workshops.
  • Capture actions and ensure these are followed through to completion.
  • Communicate delivery status clearly, adapting reporting and communication to different audiences.
  • Support positive team dynamics and collaborative ways of working.
  • Third-Party & Supplier Management
  • Support the management and tracking of third-party deliverables.
  • Monitor Statements of Work and associated purchase orders to ensure alignment with agreed commercial terms.
  • Ensure external teams understand project timelines and key delivery dependencies.
  • Support engagement with relevant assurance and governance teams to obtain approvals without impacting delivery timelines.
  • Continuous Improvement
  • Help improve PMO processes, tools, templates and ways of working.
  • Use project data and reporting to identify opportunities to improve delivery performance.
  • Support effective Agile delivery practices and ceremonies where appropriate.
  • Share good practice across project and delivery teams.

About You

  • Previous experience working within a PMO, Project Support or Portfolio Management environment.
  • Strong understanding of project governance, controls and reporting.
  • Experience managing RAID logs, dependencies, actions and project plans.
  • Good understanding of financial tracking, forecasting and resource planning.
  • Experience coordinating multiple projects or workstreams simultaneously.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
  • Confident organising and supporting governance meetings, project reviews and workshops.
  • Experience working with third-party suppliers and Statements of Work would be beneficial.
  • Understanding of Agile delivery methodologies and working alongside multidisciplinary delivery teams.
  • Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
