Data Platform Engineering Manager (Hands-On)

Remote (UK/Europe)

• Have you directly managed engineers (not just provided technical leadership)?
• Have you built or operated large-scale distributed data systems handling petabytes of data?
• Are you still comfortable being hands-on technically while leading a team?

A leading AI research company is hiring a senior engineering leader to own and scale its internal data platform infrastructure.

You’ll lead a team building distributed systems that support large-scale model training and experimentation workloads.

This is not a pure management role. We are specifically looking for experienced engineering managers who still enjoy being deeply technical and working closely with systems, architecture, and code.

Requirements

• Strong distributed systems and data infrastructure background
• Experience managing high-performing engineering teams
• Strong systems fundamentals (databases, networking, concurrency, algorithms)
• Experience operating large-scale production systems
• Hands-on technical capability alongside people leadership

Nice to Have

• ML infrastructure or model training platform experience
• Experience supporting research or experimentation environments
• Familiarity with high-throughput data pipelines
