Job Description

As a Business Intelligence Engineer, you will design, deliver and enhance the reporting and data solutions that guide operational and commercial decisions. The role combines hands-on development with analytical problem-solving, covering Power BI, SQL, Python, Snowflake and dependable ETL or ELT delivery.

Success will mean turning complex business requirements into clear, trusted and scalable insight. You will work across the analytics lifecycle, from data modelling and pipeline development through to dashboard performance, stakeholder adoption and continuous improvement, while also assessing where automation and emerging AI capabilities can create practical value.

Based in Derby, you will operate in a role with broad visibility across a business serving customers through rental and automotive service operations. Your work will help establish stronger data foundations, improve reporting quality and enable teams to act with greater speed and confidence.

The position suits an engineer who is comfortable balancing technical ownership with business engagement. Alongside delivering current priorities, you will contribute ideas that advance the organisation's analytics architecture, governance and use of intelligent tooling.

Key Responsibilities

  • Translate stakeholder objectives into well-defined reporting products, analytical models and measurable outcomes.
  • Investigate data issues, strengthen quality controls and improve the performance of reporting and pipeline processes.
  • Apply sound practices in data governance, documentation, access management and solution lifecycle control.
  • Contribute to data architecture decisions and promote scalable engineering standards across BI delivery.
  • Identify suitable opportunities for automation, AI-enabled analysis and agentic workflows.
  • Communicate technical findings and delivery progress clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable experience delivering business intelligence solutions in a live operational or commercial environment.
  • Strong Power BI capability, including dashboard development, semantic modelling, visual design and performance optimisation.
  • Advanced SQL skills with the ability to develop efficient queries, transformations and analytical logic.
  • Practical experience building, monitoring and supporting ETL or ELT pipelines.
  • Working knowledge of Snowflake or a comparable cloud data warehouse.
  • Proficiency in Python for data preparation, automation, testing or engineering tasks.
  • Understanding of dimensional modelling, data quality, governance and modern analytics architecture.
  • Ability to gather requirements, challenge assumptions and convert business questions into usable data products.
  • Clear written and verbal communication, with confidence explaining technical decisions to varied stakeholders.
  • Strong ownership, structured problem-solving ability and a focus on dependable delivery.
  • Desirable: Experience applying automation, generative AI or agentic AI to business processes or analytics.
  • Desirable: Familiarity with cloud platforms, data orchestration tools or software delivery practices.

Benefits

  • Work on data products that influence vehicle rental, fleet activity, customer service and automotive repair operations.
  • Gain broad exposure to the full BI lifecycle, from data engineering and modelling through to insight adoption.
  • Build experience with modern tools including Power BI, Snowflake, SQL and Python in a business-facing environment.
  • Contribute to forward-looking initiatives involving automation, intelligent tooling and practical AI applications.
  • Receive access to the systems, platforms and resources required to deliver reliable production solutions.
  • Develop your technical and commercial perspective through direct engagement with operational stakeholders.
  • Benefit from a role offering meaningful ownership within an organisation strengthening its analytics capability.
