Senior Project Manager | Warehouse & Logistics Automation

Location: Lichfield
Duration: 12-month contract
Rate: £650 per day Umbrella or £500 per day PAYE + £60 holiday pay

I’m currently recruiting for an experienced Senior Project Manager with a strong engineering background to join a major warehouse automation and material handling project in Lichfield.

You will be responsible for managing the project through the full lifecycle, from customer engagement and installation through to testing, commissioning and final handover.

The Role

• Project Delivery: Take full ownership of project delivery, managing programmes, budgets, costs, forecasting and reporting.
• Customer Management: Act as the primary point of contact for the customer, building strong relationships with key stakeholders.
• Site Management: Coordinate installation managers, engineers, subcontractors, suppliers and site teams.
• Engineering & Installation: Oversee the installation of conveyor systems, material handling equipment, robotics and automated systems.
• Testing & Commissioning: Lead testing and commissioning activities, ensuring systems are delivered safely and effectively.
• Health & Safety: Ensure all CDM, health and safety and quality requirements are maintained throughout the project.
• Commercial Management: Manage contractual requirements, project documentation, costs and commercial controls.
• Handover: Oversee final project handover and support the transition into operational service and maintenance.

Project Manager Requirements

• Proven experience managing large-scale engineering projects, ideally within warehouse automation, material handling or industrial automation.
• A Mechanical or Electrical Engineering background, with a minimum HNC qualification.
• Experience managing installation, testing and commissioning phases.
• Experience leading multidisciplinary site teams and managing subcontractors.
• Strong commercial awareness, including budget management, forecasting and programme control.
• Excellent customer-facing and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with conveyor systems, robotics and automated material handling.
• Previous experience within warehouse distribution, logistics, manufacturing or baggage handling projects would be beneficial.
• Strong knowledge of MS Project, MS Office and AutoCAD.
• SAP knowledge would be an advantage.
• PMP or PRINCE2 qualifications would be beneficial
