Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer - Software Engineering to support the technical execution and delivery of software engineering projects and initiatives.

Working closely with engineering teams and delivery management, you will coordinate technical activities, manage risks and dependencies, and ensure projects are delivered in line with agreed scope, timelines, quality standards and business objectives.

This role requires a technically capable professional who can provide day-to-day engineering leadership, make informed technical decisions and act as a key point of contact for resolving engineering issues and maintaining delivery momentum.

Key Responsibilities

• Coordinate technical activities across software engineering teams and key stakeholders.
• Monitor project progress, identifying and managing risks, issues, assumptions and dependencies.
• Support the development and maintenance of project plans, technical roadmaps and delivery milestones.
• Provide technical leadership and first-line technical decision-making.
• Act as a primary escalation point for engineering challenges and technical issues.
• Manage technical interfaces between customers, suppliers and internal engineering teams.
• Support project reporting, forecasting and performance monitoring.
• Ensure compliance with established engineering processes, standards and governance.
• Facilitate technical reviews, milestone assessments and delivery checkpoints.
• Track project execution against agreed objectives, schedules and deliverables.
• Contribute to effort estimation, resource planning, workload prioritisation and capacity management.
• Identify and escalate delivery risks, issues and potential schedule impacts, recommending appropriate mitigation measures.
• Ensure engineering deliverables meet agreed quality requirements.
• Support configuration management and change control activities.
• Communicate project status, risks and mitigation plans clearly to relevant stakeholders.
• Collaborate with architects, engineers and delivery teams to maintain technical alignment and successful project outcomes.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience in a Project Engineer, Software Engineering Project Engineer, Technical Project Engineer or similar technical delivery role.
• Experience coordinating software engineering activities and managing technical project delivery.
• Strong understanding of project planning, milestones, risks, issues and dependencies.
• Ability to provide technical guidance and support engineering decision-making.
• Experience working with multidisciplinary engineering teams and stakeholder groups.
• Knowledge of engineering governance, quality standards and change management processes.
• Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and drive projects towards successful delivery.
• Current, valid SC Security Clearance.
• Sole British passport holder.
• Willingness to attend the Reading office as part of a hybrid working arrangement.
