Safety Systems Engineer - Aviation

Our clients System Safety Engineering Team is seeking an experienced Aerospace System Safety Engineer to deliver safety engineering tasks required for the Certification of Boeing Commercial Aircraft. The System Safety Engineer will work closely with colleagues in Seattle to manage safety requirements and develop verification evidence.

Role: Safety Systems Engineer - Civil Aerospace
Location: Bristol or Yeovil (Hybrid working is available)
Hours: Mon-Fri - UK working hours with occasional meetings in US time zone.
IR35 Status: Inside
Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain BPSS/SC Security Clearances
Hourly Rate: Negotiable
Contract: 12 months with a possible extn.
Travel: It is expected that the successful candidate will be required to visit colleagues in the US quarterly.

The ideal candidate will be a System Safety Engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) with a strong background in the safety assessment of aircraft systems in a civil context and can team effectively within an integrated team that is geographically dispersed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tagging of airplane-level, system-level, and item-level safety requirements sets to show aircraft development assurance process meets the objectives of ARP4754A and support compliance with DO178B/C and DO-254
  • Conduct system-level verification and validation tasks aircraft safety related requirements that align to System Safety Assessments (SSAs).
  • Develop and/or review safety analysis such as Functional Hazard Assessments (FHAs), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA), Failure Modes and Effect Analysis, and Common Mode Analysis to establish verification arguments.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to manage safety throughout the product and service lifecycle.


Basic Qualifications/Skills & Experience Required

  • Bachelor's Degree or Higher
  • 10+ years of experience in an Aerospace Engineering role
  • 6+ years of experience in a System Safety Engineering
  • Proven experience with aircraft safety assessment methodologies prescribed by ARP 4761
  • Proven experience with the integral process of ARP 4754)
  • Proven experience with Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) using Reliability Workbench (RWB) and/or Computer Aided Fault Tree Analysis (CAFTA)


Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Formal System Safety Engineering training or academic qualification
  • Experience with developing the safety analysis for ATA 27 - Flight Controls


To be successful in your application it is a requirement that you hold UK 'right to work' at the time of application and that you can achieve a BPSS security clearance at a minimum, a full SC is required.
