We’re partnering with a growing AI consultancy delivering complex, high-impact transformation programmes across the Energy sector.

The business works with enterprise organisations on large-scale AI initiatives ranging from strategy and advisory through to the deployment of production-grade AI systems and agentic platforms. Projects are focused on solving real operational and infrastructure challenges, including AI-enabled transformation, intelligent automation, energy network modernisation, and AI safety.

This is a senior leadership role for someone who enjoys operating across architecture, engineering leadership, and client engagement.

The Role

This position sits at the intersection of engineering, architecture, and consultancy.

You’ll lead the technical direction and delivery of complex AI programmes, working closely with clients to understand requirements, shape solutions, and guide projects from discovery through to production deployment.

You’ll remain hands-on technically while also acting as the senior technical authority across architecture decisions, engineering quality, delivery planning, and stakeholder communication.

The role will involve:

• Designing scalable cloud-native systems and AI-enabled platforms
• Leading architecture decisions across distributed systems and backend services
• Working closely with clients to shape technical strategy and define solutions
• Scoping programmes of work, delivery plans, and engineering requirements
• Hosting and integrating ML models into production systems
• Mentoring and line managing a small team of engineers
• Collaborating with Software, DevOps, and ML Engineers across delivery teams
• Driving engineering standards, reusability, scalability, and operational excellence

What They’re Looking For

• Strong backend engineering background with expert-level Python experience
• Experience designing scalable distributed systems and cloud-native architecture
• Strong expertise across AWS or Azure environments
• Experience delivering complex enterprise platforms or transformation programmes
• Ability to operate in a client-facing consultancy environment
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Comfortable balancing hands-on engineering with technical leadership responsibilities
• Experience mentoring or leading engineers
• Interest or experience within AI systems, LLMs, ML platforms, or intelligent automation
