IT Field Support Engineer
IT Field Support Engineer
£35,000 – £45,000 + £4,000 Car Allowance + Mileage & Expenses
Basingstoke base (1-2 days/week) + Travel Across South East England
Enjoy IT support, but want to spend more time getting hands-on with projects?
Perhaps you're working for an MSP, supporting customers across Microsoft 365, infrastructure and networking.
You've also been out to customer sites, installed routers and switches, set up wireless networks or helped with smaller IT projects.
Now you're ready to do more of it.
You'll join a growing business with a large network of sites requiring IT upgrades, installations and ongoing support.
It's a varied role, combining onsite projects, network upgrades and day-to-day IT support, giving you more ownership of projects whilst keeping your broader technical skills sharp.
What's in it for you?
- Salary: £35,000 – £45,000 + £4,000 car allowance, mileage and expenses.
- More project ownership. Deliver site upgrades and installations from assessment through to completion.
- Plenty of variety. A blend of field engineering, infrastructure projects, Microsoft 365 and service desk support.
- Flexibility. Manage your site visits, with opportunities to work remotely between projects.
- Support to develop. Guidance from an experienced IT team as you take on greater responsibility.
- Benefits. 25 days' holiday + bank holidays, an additional wellbeing day, private medical insurance and healthcare cash plan.
What you'll do
You'll help modernise and standardise IT network infrastructure across a large number of existing sites, whilst supporting users with their day-to-day IT needs.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Visiting sites to assess IT setups, plan improvements and deliver upgrades.
- Installing and configuring routers, switches, wireless access points and internet connections.
- Managing smaller infrastructure projects and site refreshes from start to finish.
- Troubleshooting networking, connectivity, hardware and desktop issues.
- Providing remote Microsoft 365, Windows and general IT support.
- Supporting the service desk with escalations, day-to-day queries and holiday cover.
- Documenting changes and ensuring projects are properly completed.
What you'll bring
You don't need to be a specialist Network Engineer.
We're looking for a well-rounded IT Support Engineer who's already gained hands-on experience visiting customer sites, installing equipment and getting involved in projects.
Ideally, you'll have:
- A solid IT support background across Microsoft 365, Windows and infrastructure.
- Genuine onsite experience, ideally within an MSP or multi-customer environment.
- Practical networking knowledge, including routers, switches, Wi-Fi and connectivity.
- Experience installing and configuring networking equipment, such as UniFi or Meraki.
- Exposure to site upgrades, hardware rollouts or smaller infrastructure projects.
- The confidence to work independently, manage your workload and document your work.
You'll also need a full UK driving licence, your own vehicle and the ability to pass an enhanced DBS check.
Location & Travel
Based around Basingstoke, with regular travel across South East England and occasional trips further afield.
Flexible working from home between site visits, with opportunities to collaborate with the wider IT team.
