Core Systems Engineer (Windows) - Systematic Hedge Fund - London
A systematic hedge fund with offices across major financial centres is seeking to expand its London-based technology team.
The firm is seeking a talented Core Systems Engineer to focus on its internal Windows infrastructure environment. Windows serves as the primary desktop operating system, and many core infrastructure services are delivered through Windows Server platforms.
This role is key to ensuring performance, reliability, and standardisation across the Windows estate. The successful candidate will work to improve, automate, and optimise the infrastructure environment, contributing to deployment strategy, operational stability, and cross-team collaboration in a global setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain, improve, and standardise Windows desktop and server environments
- Automate deployment, configuration, Infrastructure-as-Code, and monitoring workflows
- Troubleshoot Windows operating systems and related applications
- Collaborate with global technology teams on deployments, issue resolution, and new initiatives
- Develop and maintain centrally managed automation scripts and repositories
- Monitor and optimise hardware performance across physical and virtual environments
- Contribute to documentation, process improvement, and infrastructure design
Required Experience & Skills
- Advanced experience with Microsoft Windows 10/11 and/or Windows Server 2016/2019/2022
- Experience with VMware environments
- Strong scripting/programming capability in PowerShell (preferred), Python, or C#
- Working knowledge of Active Directory, Kerberos, DNS, and Group Policy
- Demonstrated troubleshooting capability across Windows systems and applications
- Experience with hardware monitoring and performance tuning in physical or virtual infrastructure
- Ability to solve complex problems in a fast-paced environment
- Clear and concise communication skills, with a strong service-oriented approach
