Business Systems Manager

At Mr Fothergill's Seeds we are in the business of bringing gardens to life. Known for our exceptional range of seeds, garden products and horticultural expertise with well-known brands such as Mr Fothergill’s, Johnsons, DT Brown and Darlac our products can be found in garden centres, big retailers and direct to consumers through our websites and catalogues. We have a legacy of quality, a loyal customer base and are committed to inspiring and empowering gardeners of all levels.

We are a passionate team with a strong can-do attitude. We show respect to one another and are keen to innovate on our respective areas of expertise. We value agility, understand the journey our business is on and strive to add our unique mark onto that journey. We work hard but don’t forget to have fun. Our company purpose is “Helping Everyone Grow” and we extend that purpose to everything we do.

We’re now looking for a hands-on Business Systems Manager to take ownership of Sage X3 and lead the evolution of our business systems across the Group. You’ll act as the bridge between Finance, Operations, and Commercial — improving processes, integrating systems, and helping teams work together more effectively through better data and shared platforms.

Why this role matters:

You’ll help us modernise our ERP and connected systems, reduce operational risk, and deliver a single source of truth for the business — making our processes ready for growth, audit, and efficiency.

Core Responsibilities:

Own and Evolve Our ERP (Sage X3)

  • Act as the primary product owner for Sage X3 — managing support, configuration, releases, and documentation.
  • Ensure system stability, data accuracy, and continuous improvement through proactive issue management and clear runbooks.
  • Lead one major release cycle each year with strong controls around testing, UAT, and rollback planning.

2. Connect and Simplify Our Systems

  • Map and understand how our wider systems — from Shopify and Power BI to middleware and bespoke applications — connect across the Group.
  • Design and deliver a consolidation roadmap , building business cases for integrations that reduce complexity and enable a “single source of truth.”
  • Take ownership of integrations and middleware (EDI, Shopify feeds, Power BI), ensuring they’re reliable, reconcilable, and monitored for issues.

3. Enable Teams and Improve Processes

  • Work closely with Finance, Operations, and Commercial teams to improve cross-department collaboration through better systems and shared processes.
  • Lead workshops to translate business needs into system solutions that make day-to-day work more efficient and less manual.
  • Champion process alignment and documentation , ensuring core business workflows are standardised and easy to follow.

4. Lead, Coach, and Collaborate

  • Line manage and develop the Systems Steward — defining clear training, sign-off, and development milestones.
  • Partner with suppliers and stakeholders, maintaining strong SLAs and open communication.
  • Balance short-term support needs with long-term transformation, reducing “firefighting” through better systems and ownership.

5. Deliver Impact and Continuous Improvement

  • Measure success through tangible improvements — such as fewer manual reconciliations, faster processes, and higher data confidence.
  • Create and maintain auditable documentation for key systems and processes to support compliance, readiness, and future growth.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement — making our systems work harder for our people.

We are looking for someone who brings solid ERP experience (Sage X3 preferred) and practical knowledge of integrations, SQL, and release management. You’ll enjoy solving problems, streamlining processes, and helping others work smarter — while being confident leading discussions, managing suppliers, and mentoring a junior colleague. You will also demonstrate:

  • Practical experience with middleware / EDI / integrations.
  • Release / change management experience (UAT, rollbacks, contingency planning).
  • Strong stakeholder management; ability to run workshops and translate business needs into practical changes.
  • Ability to enhance cross-departmental collaboration and workflow efficiency through system alignment and shared process ownership.

The world of gardening should be accessible to all and it’s important that our teams reflect the diversity of our customers, ensuring that our products meet everyone’s needs. Therefore, we very much welcome applications from a diverse range of candidates regardless of background, gender, race, religious beliefs, disability, sexual orientation, or age. We’re ‘rooting’ for you!
