ODS2 Overview

The Operational Data Store (ODS) consists of an RDS Oracle multi-availability Zone database in Amazon Cloud. It is a single shared Oracle database primarily used to support Internet facing services via data replicated to downstream databases. Its functions include acting as a persistent data repository to provide a secure and consistent data source for Back End services accessing it via custom Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and directly supporting tax-critical events such as the annual Self-Assessment (SA) Peak and online issuing of tax notices. Multiple Maestro batches process files received from Head of Duty Systems reflecting various tax regimes and store the data on ODS. Data is also received via OBIS (a WebMethods broker), ChRIS, GGIS, HTTP calls and from other databases via replication and queueing techniques.
