Python | SQL | Machine Learning | Predictive Analytics | Insurance
A leading international insurance business is looking for a Claims Analytics Lead to establish and develop a dedicated analytics capability within its growing Portfolio Analytics function.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of a new area of analytics, identifying where data science, predictive modelling and machine learning can improve business decisions and operational performance.
You'll join an established Portfolio Analytics department that has grown significantly through delivering commercially valuable solutions. With dedicated Data Science, Data Engineering and AI capabilities already in place, you'll have the technical support to turn ideas into practical tools used across the business.
The Opportunity
Claims is an area with significant potential for analytical development. Many processes remain manual, creating opportunities to introduce modelling, automation and better use of existing data.
Rather than inheriting an established roadmap, you'll work directly with senior Claims stakeholders to understand their challenges, identify opportunities and develop analytical solutions that make a measurable difference. The focus is on practical delivery, not building complex models for the sake of it.
This is initially an individual contributor position, with the potential to develop into a broader capability as the function demonstrates value and attracts further investment.
Key Responsibilities
- Establish and develop the Claims Analytics capability, identifying opportunities to improve claims decisions and operational processes.
- Work closely with Claims leadership to translate business challenges into practical analytical solutions.
- Develop statistical models, predictive analytics and machine learning solutions using Python or R and SQL.
- Build and evaluate proofs of concept, working alongside established Data Science and Data Engineering teams to develop successful solutions.
- Apply analytics across the claims life cycle, including triage, claims severity, forecasting, recoveries and operational performance.
- Explore opportunities to extract valuable insights from unstructured claims data using AI and modern analytical techniques.
- Ensure analytical solutions are adopted by business teams and deliver measurable commercial value.
Skills & Experience
- Strong hands on experience in Data Science, Advanced Analytics or Predictive Modelling within a commercial environment.
- Practical experience with Python or R, SQL and statistical or machine learning models.
- Experience translating business requirements into analytical models, tools or solutions.
- Evidence of developing analytical solutions that have been implemented and used within a business.
- Strong quantitative and problem solving skills, with the ability to identify appropriate modelling approaches.
- Experience working with business stakeholders to understand problems, establish priorities and communicate analytical findings.
- An understanding of how analytical models move from initial concept into practical business use.
- A degree in Mathematics, Statistics or a related quantitative discipline is required.
Insurance or Claims Analytics experience is likely to be preferred although candidates from other industries with strong applied Data Science experience and examples of delivering analytical capabilities are encouraged to apply.
Exposure to NLP, Large Language Models or AI applications would be beneficial, although specialist experience is not required.
Why Apply?
This is an opportunity to establish an analytics capability rather than simply contribute to an existing one.
You'll join a well-established, commercially focused analytical department with access to experienced Data Scientists, Data Engineers and AI specialists, while retaining ownership of the business problems you're solving.
The department has a strong track record of investing in areas that demonstrate value, creating genuine scope for the Claims Analytics function to expand.
The position offers significant autonomy, direct engagement with senior business leadership and the opportunity to see your analytical work make a tangible difference to how an international insurance business operates.
