Pay Rate: £400-£550 per day
Length of Contract: 12 Months
About the Role
We're seeking an experienced Senior System Administrator with deep expertise in Red Hat Linux and clustering technologies to join a leading global banking client's IT Infrastructure team. You'll be part of a small EMEA-based team working closely with global high-touch patching teams to deliver a "follow-the-sun" support model. The role focuses on enterprise-scale OS patching, troubleshooting, and system automation across a complex Unix/Linux environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, execute, and oversee monthly OS patching and core upgrades across enterprise environments
- Perform pre- and post-patch checks to ensure system stability and configuration consistency
- Troubleshoot and resolve patching or infrastructure issues; escalate when needed
- Collaborate with application support, platform engineering, and global operations teams
- Develop and maintain automation scripts (BladeLogic, Ansible, Shell, Python, Perl)
- Manage and support Red Hat clustering solutions (RHCS) and GPFS clusters
- Contribute to continuous process improvement and documentation
Required Skills & Experience
- Extensive Red Hat Linux (RHEL 7.x-9.x) system administration experience
- Proven experience with clustering technologies - RHCS and GPFS (essential)
- Strong troubleshooting skills for x86 hardware (IBM, HP, Dell)
- Hands-on experience in enterprise patch management (1,500+ servers)
- Scripting proficiency - Ansible, Shell, Python, Perl
- Knowledge of BladeLogic (advantageous)
- Familiarity with Mellanox and SolarFlare technologies
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work with global teams
- Banking or financial services experience preferred
- Availability to work Saturdays, with time off in lieu provided on a weekday
