This company is a Workflow & AI Orchestration Specialist. They deliver workflow and orchestration solutions that modernise casework, data, and citizen services. They connect fragmented systems to create coherent experiences with AI agents deployed safely at scale. They operate across two pillars: 1) advise and implement to provide end-to-end technology solutions that integrate cutting edge orchestration and 2) agentic AI capabilities. They’re growing fast and looking for bright, dynamic people to help build their business.

Role Overview

They're looking for an AI Builder to join their growing team: someone who builds AI and agentic AI systems that solve real-world problems. They’re looking for someone who can help solve both these questions. First and foremost, they’re looking for someone who can help build these systems. Historically this would have required candidates with a deep understanding of machine learning and AI engineering, but in the new world of agentic coding and high-performance generalised reasoning models, things are clearly a little different.

They build solutions using a combination of APIs, self-hosted models, agentic frameworks and agentic builders integrated into other technology solutions. They use third party products and integrations where useful, but they also design and build their own bespoke systems either when the problem requires or when it makes sense commercially. They generally build their backend systems in Python, although increasingly leverage agentic coding tools so that they are less in the weeds of coding itself, and more building at the system level.

Core to all of this is being able to navigate complex but often poorly defined and open-ended questions effectively. They are looking for candidates who can build solutions quickly and efficiently whilst ensuring these systems are well designed and extensible, who can balance speed with engineering quality and ensure they avoid overengineering solutions too early whilst then productionising and scaling solutions effectively when proven, who can work closely with clients and end users to understand problems whilst iterating towards desired outcomes, and who remain curious and motivated across a rapidly evolving technology and business landscape.

They expect candidates to be comparatively stronger across different areas depending on background and experience, and they are happy to consider candidates from a diverse range of backgrounds from both academia and industry. This includes machine learning and AI engineers, software developers who are looking to focus more on AI, product designers and architects who are looking to move into more technical delivery, and technical researchers (physics, mathematics, computer science etc.) who want to move into more applied development and delivery.

They are also open to different levels of experience and seniority, which is reflected in the relatively wide salary bracket. Most important is experience and interest in building these systems in some form, some level of technical understanding and experience, and curiosity and motivation to continue to learn how to build effective AI and agentic systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working directly with the Head of AI & Data to design, develop, deploy and scale AI and agentic AI systems that solve real-world problems, both for clients and internally.
  • Collaborate with service designers, engineers and business analysts to identify and frame AI use cases.
  • Build rapid proof-of-concepts (PoC) and prototype AI systems to demonstrate possible solutions, test technical feasibility, gain feedback on design and gauge overall usefulness.
  • Work with engineering teams to productionise and scale AI and agentic systems within wider products and platforms.
  • Iterate and improve AI and agentic systems already deployed within client organisations and internally to improve performance, quality, robustness, resilience, cost etc. and to further extend features.
  • Build solutions using agentic coding tools, with a strong eye on system design and quality.
  • Advise on AI strategy, adoption and scaling for clients.
  • Contribute to internal R&D, tooling, thought leadership and the company’s AI proposition.
  • Support bids and client engagements where AI capability is a key differentiator.
  • Help maintain awareness of and critically analyse the evolving AI landscape, both at a model / product level and more at a business / strategic level.

Essential Skills and Experience

  • Demonstrable experience building systems that incorporate AI and/or agentic AI, whether that’s in industry, academic or personal projects.
  • Some technical knowledge and experience, either more foundational (e.g. mathematics, statistics, computer science etc.) or applied (programming, software development etc.).
  • Experience and proficiency developing in Python, including wider system design principles.
  • Some experience developing with agentic coding tools (e.g. Claude Code, OpenAI Codex etc.).
  • Strong system-design judgement: structuring systems so you retain a clear understanding of how they work, even when you didn't hand-write every line, and a sense of how to test and prove them.

NB: Please only apply if you are eligible for DV security clearance (i.e. you are a sole (not dual) British national with min 10 years continuous UK residency).
