Lead Mechanical Design Engineer – Special Purpose Machinery & Automation

Location: Leicester

Salary: Up to £55,000 DOE

Are you an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering challenges and seeing your designs become fully functioning machines?

We're recruiting for an established engineering business specialising in bespoke machinery, robotics and automation solutions.

This is an opportunity to work on technically interesting projects, taking mechanical designs from initial concepts through to installation and commissioning.

What you'll be doing:

• Designing complex machinery, mechanisms and mechanical assemblies using 3D CAD.
• Taking ownership of mechanical design projects from concept through to delivery.
• Working on machinery incorporating mechanical, electrical, robotic and automated systems.
• Developing practical, innovative solutions to engineering challenges.
• Conducting design reviews and ensuring designs are robust, reliable and suitable for manufacture.
• Collaborating with electrical engineers, controls specialists and machine builders.
• Supporting machinery builds, testing and commissioning.

What we're looking for:

• 5+ years' experience in mechanical design.
• A background in special purpose machinery, mechatronics or complete machine design involving integrated electronics, robotics or automation.
• Strong 3D CAD skills – Solid Edge preferred, although SolidWorks, Inventor and Creo are also considered.
• Good understanding of mechanical mechanisms, assemblies and practical engineering principles.
• Experience delivering engineering designs through to manufacture or machine build.

You don't need to have spent your entire career in automation. We're equally interested in engineers who have designed complete machinery incorporating multiple engineering disciplines.
