Are you a software engineer with strong programming skills and the commercial drive to take software products to market, win customers and grow revenue?
This is an excellent opportunity to join a growing, privately owned engineering business in a role combining practical software development, technical leadership and product commercialisation.
You will take ownership of engineering software products approaching launch, helping turn them into reliable, commercially successful solutions. You will remain actively involved in programming, architecture and technical problem-solving, while setting product direction, leading the development team and working directly with customers.
Your impact will extend beyond development. You will help identify market opportunities, demonstrate products, shape pricing and proposals, and lead technical sales conversations. Understanding customers' engineering challenges and showing how the software solves them will be central to your success.
The business needs someone who can set a clear direction, make decisions and maintain momentum, from resolving a technical issue in the code to presenting a compelling solution to a prospective customer.
This role would suit a Technical Director, Head of Engineering, Technical Founder or experienced software engineer who combines practical development skills with a track record of launching products and winning business.
THE ROLE:
* Remain hands-on with programming, code reviews, architecture and technical problem-solving.
* Take engineering software products through development, testing and successful commercial launch.
* Set the technology strategy and product roadmap, prioritising work around customer needs and commercial opportunities.
* Lead and develop the software engineering team, improving delivery quality and speed.
* Work directly with customers to understand requirements, demonstrate products and communicate their value.
* Drive technical sales activity, contribute to proposals and help convert opportunities into revenue.
* Shape product packaging, pricing and licensing or subscription models.
* Take responsibility for product performance, customer adoption and ongoing improvement.
THE PERSON:
* An engineering background combined with strong practical programming and software development skills.
* Comfortable writing, debugging and reviewing code, with the ability to contribute directly to development.
* Proven experience taking software or technical products through to launch and customer use.
* Strong sales and commercial capability, including demonstrating solutions, building customer relationships and winning business.
* Able to translate complex technical features into clear customer benefits and a compelling commercial proposition.
* Experience setting technical direction and leading engineers or software developers.
* Proactive and decisive, with the drive to take ownership and move products forward.
* Experience with engineering software, industrial technology or other complex technical products would be advantageous.
