Overview

We are seeking an experienced Equation Support Engineer to join a growing technology team supporting a leading financial institution's core banking environment. The role focuses on maintaining, supporting, and optimising the Finastra Equation platform - the bank's central system for deposits, loans, payments, and customer operations.

You'll be part of a close-knit technical team responsible for ensuring the stability, reliability, and continuous improvement of critical banking applications, while contributing to broader system modernisation and integration projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide day-to-day technical support for the Finastra Equation core banking system and related modules

  • Monitor system performance, resolve incidents, and implement fixes or enhancements to maintain high availability

  • Analyse and troubleshoot Equation jobs, services, and interfaces running on the IBM i (AS400) platform

  • Work with development, infrastructure, and vendor teams to deliver patches, upgrades, and system optimisations

  • Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, changes, and procedures

  • Assist with testing, release management, and change control for production deployments

  • Participate in project activities, including migrations, upgrades, and automation initiatives

  • Ensure compliance with IT security, audit, and risk standards in all activities

Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Proven experience supporting Finastra Equation or other IBM i-based core banking platforms

  • Strong technical understanding of IBM i/AS400 operations, including job scheduling, CL commands, and RPG program structures

  • Familiarity with DB2 databases, SQL Scripting, and system performance monitoring tools

  • Knowledge of banking operations across deposits, lending, and payments

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues under pressure

  • Strong documentation discipline and attention to detail

  • Collaborative mindset with effective communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Experience with ITIL processes (incident, change, problem management)

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related discipline (or equivalent experience)
