Senior Backend Software Engineer

A rapidly scaling, AI-driven health-tech organisation (Series A funded) is hiring an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to help build and scale the backend infrastructure powering cutting-edge clinical knowledge tools used by hundreds of thousands of clinicians globally.

This is a role with significant ownership, impact, and influence — working in a small, highly capable team of clinician-engineers at the forefront of AI in healthcare.

The Opportunity

You will design, build, and optimise cloud-first backend systems, with a strong emphasis on AWS Serverless, LLM-powered workflows, and highly reliable production infrastructure.

This is the chance to help define how AI is safely deployed in frontline clinical environments.

Tech Stack (Highly Desirable)

• AWS (Lambda, API Gateway, Cognito, S3, OpenSearch)
• Node.js / TypeScript & Python
• DynamoDB & PostgreSQL
• Serverless & microservices architecture
• Terraform, Docker, CI/CD
• Security/Compliance (HIPAA, GDPR, NHS DTAC, SOC2)

What You'll Do

• Build highly scalable backend services and APIs
• Work on LLM-powered features (RAG pipelines, embedding workflows)
• Develop agentic document extraction systems for clinical PDFs
• Own backend reliability, performance, and security
• Work cross-functionally with product, frontend, and leadership
• Write clean, well-tested, maintainable code

What You'll Bring

• 5+ years' experience in production backend engineering
• Strong AWS proficiency
• Experience designing scalable, cloud-native systems
• Pragmatic problem-solver with a high bar for quality
• Experience in smaller teams/startups is highly advantageous
