AVEVA PI - Technical Specialist

Senior AVEVA PI Specialist (OSIsoft PI Platform Owner)

Permanent | £64,000 - £76,500 + benefits | Hybrid - Aberdeen, Glasgow, Inverness or Perth

This is a platform role, not a data analysis role.
We're looking for the person who keeps the PI system running: administering, patching, upgrading, troubleshooting and designing it. This is not a role for someone whose main experience is building reports from PI data.

The opportunity
A major UK business requires a permanent technical owner for its enterprise AVEVA PI platform. You will become its go-to expert, and you will have a real say in how the platform grows.

The environment
  • High-availability PI estate hosted on Azure VMs
  • PI Data Archive collective, AF, load-balanced PI Vision and an Analysis/Notifications cluster
  • Clustered SQL Back End and a dedicated interface server
  • Data arrives through OPC DA, OPC UA and API connectors, including feeds from the OT side
  • An established third-party support partner backs you up for upgrades and escalations, so you won't be working alone

What you'll do
  • Own the full PI stack: Data Archive, AF, PI Vision and its associated components
  • Keep the platform available, secure, resilient and performing well
  • Configure and troubleshoot PI Interfaces, Connectors, SDKs and APIs
  • Lead upgrades, patching, DR testing, performance tuning and lifecycle planning
  • Shape the platform's future, including onward integration for analytics and AI use cases such as predictive maintenance, and options such as AVEVA Connect or Databricks
  • Act as the trusted technical contact for users, project teams and suppliers

What you'll bring
  • Hands-on administration of AVEVA/OSIsoft PI in a production environment, across Data Archive, AF and PI Vision
  • Experience with PI Interfaces, Connectors and integrations, OPC experience in particular
  • Strong troubleshooting, monitoring and resilience skills on a business-critical system
  • Understanding of OT, SCADA, telemetry or industrial control environments

The practical details
  • 50% office-based across the week, with a flexible pattern. For example, two days one week and three the next both work, and full days suit people who live further out.
  • No on-call rota. Planned out-of-hours patching and upgrades are paid back as time off in lieu.
  • Benefits include private healthcare and gym discounts, an online GP, 24/7 counselling, a Cycle to Work scheme, interest-free tech and travel loans, and strong family leave.
  • Interviews are conversational, with no presentation and no technical test.
  • SC clearance is required. This normally needs 5 years' UK residency. Visa sponsorship is not available
