About the Opportunity

Seeking experienced Backend Engineers to contribute to cutting-edge AI agent projects focused on improving next-generation large language model systems.

This is a flexible, project-based freelance opportunity suited to engineers interested in AI automation, backend systems, orchestration workflows, and autonomous agent technologies. Contributors will work on real-world AI agent tasks involving multi-step reasoning, tool usage, workflow coordination, and system optimisation.

What You’ll Work On

  • Build and improve backend systems powering AI agent workflows
  • Develop modular services for data processing, logic execution, reporting, and orchestration
  • Support production-style environments involving multi-step agent interactions
  • Analyse and evaluate AI-generated outputs and system behaviour
  • Provide structured technical feedback to improve agent performance and reliability
  • Integrate APIs, databases, and external tools into agent workflows
  • Identify and troubleshoot system failures, edge cases, and reasoning breakdowns

What We’re Looking For

  • 2+ years of experience in backend engineering, AI automation, or systems integration
  • Strong programming skills in Python plus at least one additional language (JavaScript, Go, Java, etc.)
  • Experience working with SQL databases and structured data systems
  • Background building production-grade or modular backend architectures
  • Experience working with live environments and multi-turn workflows
  • Strong analytical thinking and high attention to detail

Nice to Have

  • Experience building AI agents, orchestration systems, or workflow automation tools
  • Hands-on API integration experience (Supabase, Gmail, SaaS tools, etc.)
  • Familiarity with memory/state management systems for AI agents
  • Experience identifying AI failure patterns such as prompt injection, privacy leaks, or reasoning inconsistencies
  • Exposure to evaluation and optimisation of LLM-driven systems
