Senior Software Developer

A logistics business is building its own software and AI technology to transform how it operates, with plans to take those products to the wider market.

The software is already being used within the business, with new applications approaching launch and further products in development. They now need an experienced developer who can take ownership of technical delivery, turn ambitious ideas into reliable software and help build the foundations of a commercial SaaS business.
This is an opportunity to have a genuine influence on the products, architecture and technical direction, rather than simply working through an established development backlog.

Senior Software Developer - AI & SaaS
Location: Ramsgate, Kent
Salary: Up to £85,000 depending on experience
Working pattern: Office-based, five days per week
Contract: Permanent

The opportunity
You will join a small software development team within an established logistics business that is investing in its own technology.
The company has developed a new operational platform covering areas such as dispatch, driver management and recruitment, alongside a finance and reporting application integrating with Xero. Both are progressing towards wider deployment, with plans to develop them into commercial SaaS products.
There are also further projects underway, including AI-powered automation, intelligent agents and new logistics applications.
Your role will be to help turn these developments into secure, scalable and commercially viable software.

What you'll be doing

  • Taking ownership of software projects from requirements and technical design through to deployment and ongoing support.
  • Developing and improving full-stack applications, backend services and APIs.
  • Preparing existing applications for commercial use, with a focus on reliability, testing, security and scalability.
  • Building AI-enabled functionality, automation and integrations that solve real operational problems.
  • Working directly with the founder and operational teams to understand requirements and turn ideas into working software.
  • Contributing to architecture decisions, development standards and the technical roadmap.
  • Supporting other developers through code reviews, technical guidance and mentoring.

This is a hands-on position. You will be expected to write and review code, solve problems and take responsibility for delivering working software.

What we're looking for

The priority is someone who has experience building and maintaining SaaS applications and understands what it takes to deliver reliable software into production.
You should bring:

  • Strong JavaScript/TypeScript skills and experience with modern frontend development.
  • Backend development experience with Python, Node.js or similar technologies.
  • Experience developing SaaS applications, including APIs, databases and system integrations.
  • Practical experience working with AI-enabled applications, AI models or AI-assisted development.
  • A good understanding of software architecture, testing, deployment and application security.
  • The confidence to take ownership of projects, challenge ideas constructively and explain technical decisions to non-technical colleagues.

Experience with LLMs, AI agents, RAG, vector databases or workflow automation tools would be useful, but you don't need to have worked with every technology.

Why consider it?

The business is at an interesting stage. It has the advantage of developing software within a live logistics operation, giving the engineering team direct access to the people using its products and the problems they need to solve.
You will work closely with the founder, who brings extensive industry experience and a clear vision for the technology, alongside a small development team.
It is a collaborative, hands-on environment where priorities can change as products evolve. The role requires someone comfortable with that level of involvement, rather than a highly structured development environment with narrowly defined responsibilities.
The longer-term ambition is to establish a commercial software business, with the potential for future discussions around equity for someone who becomes instrumental to its growth. This is not a guaranteed part of the package.

Salary and benefits

  • Up to £85,000
  • 25 days' annual leave, plus bank holidays.
  • Company pension.
  • Quarterly team social events.
  • Flexible start times within the company's established working patterns.

The position is based on-site in Ramsgate , five days per week, reflecting the need to work closely with the development team and wider business.
If you're an experienced developer who enjoys building products, solving complex problems and seeing the direct impact of your work, we'd be interested in speaking with you.
